The 1994 Australian Open (also known as the 1994 Ford Australian Open for sponsorship purposes) was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at Flinders Park in Melbourne in Victoria in Australia. It was the 82nd edition of the Australian Open and was held from 17 to 30 January 1994. Seniors Men's singles Pete Sampras defeated Todd Martin 7–6(7–4), 6–4, 6–4 * It was Sampras' 4th career Grand Slam title and his 1st Australian Open title. The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year, also referred to as the "Calendar-year Grand Slam" or "Calendar Slam". Jamie Delgado (born 21 March 1977) is a British tennis coach and former professional player. Delgado has represented Great Britain in the Davis Cup, most recently in 2006. Delgado holds the all-time male record for playing in consecutive Wimbledon tournaments, playing for the 23rd time in 2014 at the age of 37. Barbara Schett Eagle (; born 10 March 1976) is an Austrian former professional tennis player, who reached her highest singles ranking of world No. 7 in September 1999. Between 1993 and 2004 she played in 48 matches for the Austria Fed Cup team, winning 30. Andrew Ilie (born 18 April 1976) is a former tennis player. Ilie fled Romania at age 10 with his family, spending a year at a refugee camp in Austria before emigrating to Australia. He turned professional in 1994 and became a citizen of Australia. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. Patty Fendick (born March 31, 1965) is a former professional tennis player and the former women's tennis program head coach at University of Texas. Born in Sacramento, California, she played at the collegiate level at Stanford University, where the team won the NCAA team title three times. In 1987, she was named ITA Player of the Year, when on the Stanford tennis team she had a 57-match winning streak. She won two NCAA singles titles in 1986 and 1987.
