Austria
Austria, , bar, Östareich officially the Republic of Austria, is a country in the southern part of Central Europe, lying in the Eastern Alps. It is a federation of nine states, one of which is the capital, Vienna, the most populous city and state. Favoriten Girl Murders
The Favoriten Girl Murders were a series of sexually-motivated crimes committed against a young woman and two young girls: Alexandra Schriefl (d. 1988, aged 20), Christina Beranek (d. 1989, aged 10) and Nicole Strau (d. 1990, aged 8) in the Vienna, Viennese district of Favoriten. This case was among the most extensive and costliest investigations in Austrian history. For a long time, the investigators believed that a single serial killer was responsible for the murders. It was not until the introduction of DNA profiling and a DNA database that the murderers of Schriefl and Strau were arrested, in 2000 and 2001, respectively. Christina Beranek's killing is the only unsolved case left, although the public prosecutor and investigators alike believe that Herbert Petsch, the man convicted of killing Alexandra, killed her as well. Conchita Wurst
Thomas Neuwirth (born 6 November 1988) is an Austrian singer and drag queen who is known for his stage persona Conchita Wurst (or simply Conchita). Neuwirth came to international attention after winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 as with the song "Rise Like a Phoenix". Neuwirth has stated that he is not a trans woman. He is gay, and has also described himself as a drag queen. He uses she/her pronouns to describe his Conchita Wurst character, but he/him pronouns when referring to himself. Born in Gmunden, Neuwirth moved to Graz to do his matura, matura exam with a focus on fashion, before embarking on a singing career through the 2007 casting show ''Starmania (TV series), Starmania''. He subsequently became a founding member of the short-lived boy band Jetzt Anders!. Dominik Landertinger (; born 13 March 1988) is a retired Austrian biathlete. Life and career Landertinger debuted in the 2007–08 season, and his big breakthrough came during the 2008–09 season, where he, as of 22 March 2015, has fourteen podium finishes, including a gold medal in the 15 km mass start at the 2009 World Championships in Pyeongchang and a win in the 15 km mass start in Khanty-Mansiysk at the last round of the 2009–10 season. He also finished second in the men's relay in the same World Championships, alongside Daniel Mesotitsch, Simon Eder and Christoph Sumann. He represented Austria at the 2010 Winter Olympics, 2014 Winter Olympics, and 2018 Winter Olympics. Natascha Kampusch
Natascha Maria Kampusch (born 17 February 1988) is an Austrian author and former talk show host. At the age of 10, on 2 March 1998, she was abducted and held in a secret cellar by her kidnapper Wolfgang Přiklopil for more than eight years, until she escaped on 23 August 2006. Upon her escape, Přiklopil killed himself by walking in front of a train at a nearby station. She has written a book about her ordeal, ''3,096 Days'' (2010), which was later adapted into the 2013 German film ''3096 Days''. Early life Kampusch was raised by her mother, Brigitta Sirny (née Kampusch), and her father, Ludwig Koch, in Vienna. Kampusch's family included two adult sisters, and five nieces and nephews. The United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of 1988 is one of three major drug control treaties currently in force. It provides additional legal mechanisms for enforcing the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs and the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances. The Convention entered into force on November 11, 1990. As of June 2020, there are 191 Parties to the Convention. These include 186 out of 193 United Nations member states (not Equatorial Guinea, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, or Tuvalu) and the Holy See, the European Union, the Cook Islands, Niue, and the State of Palestine.
