Salomon Soldin
Salomon Soldin (15 March 1774 - 27 November 1837) was a Jewish-Danish bookseller, publisher, editor, writer and translator. Early life and background Soldin was born into a Jewish family in Copenhagenm the son of Israel Isak Soldin, a merchant, and Malka (née Isserl)m who had emigrated to Denmark from Germany. He had four brothers and four sisters. Career Salomon Soldin trained as a bookseller with his elder brother Abraham Soldin (1769–1834) and became a partner in the company in an early age. A third brother was the antique book seller Hartvig Soldin (1763–1843). The brothers Salomon and Abraham Soldin created a publishing house of considerable size. Their publications included H. A. Kofod's first encyclopedia which was published in 20 volumes from 1816, a popular series of travel books (34 volumes) and many school books. Erich Erichsen
Erich Erichsen (31 March 1752 – 7 January 1837) was a Danish merchant and ship-owner. He owned the trading house C. S. Blacks Enke & Co. from 1783. The Erichsen Mansion in Copenhagen is named after him. Early life and education Erichsen was born in Odense, the son of war and district commissioner and chamberlain Laurids Erichsen (1716–1756) and Charlotte Christiane von Westen (1724–1801). He completed a merchant's apprenticeship in Copenhagen. Career After completing his apprenticeship, Erichsen was employed in the Blach trading house. He became part of the management of the company after C. S. Blach's death in 1781. He married Blach's widow in 1783 and thus became the owner of the company that changed its name to C. S. Blachs Enke & Co. He was also involved in money lending. His ships brought spices and precious textiles home from the East Indies and transported grain from the Baltic countries to England. Philip Heyman
Philip Wulff Heyman (5 November 1837 – 15 December 1893) was a Jewish Danish industrialist who co-founded the Tuborg Brewery. He was also a pioneer of Danish butter and bacon exports to the United Kingdom. Early life Heyman was born on 5 November 1837 in Copenhagen, the son of merchant Wulff Philip Heyman (1794–1866) and his second wife Jacobine Meyer (1812–73). He had five brothers and sisters, including Isaac Wulff Heyman. The family lived on Nytorv (No. 89, old number). He attended Melchiors Borgerskole from 1854. Career In 1858 Heyman established himself as a commodity broker of grain, butter and other food products. In 1861, he was granted citizenship as a merchant ('). Janus La Cour
Janus Andreas Bartholin la Cour (5 September 1837 – 13 October 1909) was a Danish painter who is remembered for his landscapes painted in the classical style of the Eckersberg school. Biography Born near Ringkøbing, he spent much of his early life in the Aarhus area, attending Aarhus Latin School where he was introduced to painting by Emmerik Høegh-Guldberg and his apprentice Christen Købke. In 1853, he moved to Copenhagen where he studied privately under Wilhelm Marstrand and, from 1856, under P.C. Skovgaard who was particularly important for his artistic development and became a personal friend. From 1861 to 1884, la Cour lived with the Skovgaard family in Copenhagen. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1857 to 1864. During several trips to Italy, he painted landscapes of Lake Nemi and Tivoli.
