Christians () are people who follow or adhere to Christianity, a monotheistic Abrahamic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The words ''Christ'' and ''Christian'' derive from the Koine Greek title ''Christós'' (Χριστός), a translation of the Biblical Hebrew term ''mashiach'' (מָשִׁיחַ) (usually rendered as ''messiah'' in English). Peter Fenger (1719–1774)
Peter Fenger (23 October 1719 – 24 December 1774) was a Danish merchant and slave trader. He participated in the triangular trade. Early life and education Fenger was born in Lübeck, the son of skipper Peter Fenger (1688–1737) and Magdalene Margrethe Seeländer (1692–1778). He came to Copenhagen in an early age where he became an apprentice in Johan Friederich Wewer's trading house. He stayed there for 14 years. Career In 1752, Fenger established his own trading house in Christianshavn. In spite of his lack of experience as a company trader, he was hired by the Danish Asiatic Company as 1st supercargo on board the ''Dronning Juliana Maria'' on her expedition to Canton in 1753, Back in Copenhagen, in 1755, he began a partnership with Peter Borre under the name Borre & Fenger. The company traded in a wide array of products, including salt, flax, hemp and coal, spices, sugar and other colonial goods. It was also involved in the Danish slave trade. Peter Applebye
Peter Applebye (5 October 1709 – 13 August 1774) was a British-Danish industrialist. Applebys Plads in Copenhagen, the former site of his shipyard and ropewalk, is named after him. Early life and education There has been some debate about the parentage of Applebye. Whilst a baptism record dated 25 Sep 1710 exists for a Peter Appleby, son of John and Susanna, baptised in Holy Trinity, Gosport, Hampshire, this record appears to refer to a different Peter Appleby, most likely a cousin. Of more import is the known record of his apprenticeship, which cites one Francis Apleby as his father. Career Appleby was born in Gosport, Hampshire, the son of Francis Appleby. Aged 16, he was articled to Thomas Linze, a rope maker in royal service, and worked there until 1733. In 1737, he was charged with modernizing the ropewalk at the Royal Naval Dockyards at Nyholm in Copenhagen. Christian VII Of Denmark
Christian VII (29 January 1749 – 13 March 1808) was a monarch of the House of Oldenburg who was King of Denmark–Norway and Duke of Schleswig and Holstein from 1766 until his death in 1808. For his motto he chose: "''Gloria ex amore patriae''" ("Glory through love of the fatherland"). Christian VII's reign was marked by mental illness and for most of his reign, Christian was only nominally king. His royal advisers changed depending on who won power struggles around the throne. From 1770 to 1772, his court physician Johann Friedrich Struensee was the ''de facto'' ruler of the country and introduced progressive reforms signed into law by Christian VII. Struensee was deposed by a coup in 1772, after which the country was ruled by Christian's stepmother, Juliane Marie of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, his half-brother Frederick, and the Danish politician Ove Høegh-Guldberg. Salomon Soldin
Salomon Soldin (15 March 1774 - 27 November 1837) was a Jewish-Danish bookseller, publisher, editor, writer and translator. Early life and background Soldin was born into a Jewish family in Copenhagenm the son of Israel Isak Soldin, a merchant, and Malka (née Isserl)m who had emigrated to Denmark from Germany. He had four brothers and four sisters. Career Salomon Soldin trained as a bookseller with his elder brother Abraham Soldin (1769–1834) and became a partner in the company in an early age. A third brother was the antique book seller Hartvig Soldin (1763–1843). The brothers Salomon and Abraham Soldin created a publishing house of considerable size. Their publications included H. A. Kofod's first encyclopedia which was published in 20 volumes from 1816, a popular series of travel books (34 volumes) and many school books.
