Robert Adams (architect)
Robert Adams (1540–1595) was a 16th-century English architect, engraver and surveyor of buildings to Queen Elizabeth. He was a son of Clement Adams. None of Robert Adams's architectural works are known to have survived, but some of his plans and engravings are still extant, such as a large 1588 plan of Middleburgh and, from the same year, a small parchment roll, drawn with pen, entitled "Thamesis Descriptio", which shows lines drawn across the River Thames and the various ranges of guns at different points from Tilbury Fort to London. Adams also drew and engraved representations of the Spanish Armada's activities on the British coasts, which were published by Augustine Ryther in 1589. Robert Adams died in his 55th year and was buried in the church at Greenwich, where the following inscription was placed to his memory: :"Egregio viro Roberto Adams, operum regiorum supervisori, architecturae peritissimo. Annibale Fontana
Annibale Fontana (1540–1587) was an Italian sculptor, medallist and crystal-worker. Fontana was born in Milan. His first known work is a crystal case, now in the ''Schatzkammer '' of Munich, for Albert V of Bavaria (c. 1560-1570). In 1570–1572 he was in Palermo, working for viceroy Francesco Fernardo d'Avalos, of whom he made a portrait on a medal. He returned to Lombardy, where he married Ippolita Saracchi, a member of a famous family of crystal-workers. Later Fontana worked in the church of Santa Maria presso San Celso, executing the famous statue of the ''Assumption'' and numerous statues for the façade and the cross and large bronze candlesticks of the major wing of the Certosa di Pavia. Cristoforo Coriolano
Cristoforo Coriolano () (born 1540) was a German engraver− of the Renaissance. Biography He was born in Nuremberg. He moved to Italy and changed his name from Lederer for that of Coriolano. He engraved on wood. In the ''Life of Marcantonio Raimondi'', the biographer Vasari assured that his ''Maestro Cristofano'', after achieving some success in Venice, engraved on wood the portraits of the painters, sculptors, and architects, after Vasari's designs, for his ''Lives of the Painters'', first published in 1568. Others consider them to be the work of Christopher Krieger. He also engraved the greater part of the figures in the ''Ornithology'' of Ulisse Aldrovandi. Denis Calvaert
Denis (or Denys or Denijs) Calvaert (; around 154016 April 1619) was an Antwerp-born Flemish painter, who lived in Italy for most of his life, where he was known as Dionisio Fiammingo () or simply Il Fiammingo ("the Fleming"). Calvaert was a profound student of architecture, anatomy, and history. His works are characterized by their advanced composition and colouring. Calvaert is well known for his drawings and small copper paintings. Some of his best known works include his rendition of The Resurrection of Christ and Saint John the Baptist in the Wilderness. Giovanni Maria Butteri (1540–1606), also known as Giovanmaria Butteri, was an Italian painter of the Mannerist period, active in his native Florence. He was a pupil of Alessandro Allori and Francesco Salviati. He participated in the fresco decoration of the large cloister at Santa Maria Novella. Andrea Andreani
Andrea Andreani (1540–1623) was an Italian engraver on wood, who was among the first printmakers in Italy to use chiaroscuro, which required multiple colours. Andreani was born and generally active in Mantua about 1540 ( Brulliot says 1560) and died at Rome in 1623. His engravings are scarce and valuable, and are chiefly copies of Mantegna, Albrecht Dürer, Parmigianino and Titian. The most remarkable of his works are ''Mercury and Ignorance'', the ''Deluge'', ''Pharaoh's Host Drowned in the Red Sea'' (after Titian), the '' Triumph of Caesar'' (after Mantegna), and ''Christ retiring from the judgment-seat of Pilate'' after a relief by Giambologna.
