Club Sport Marítimo is a handball team based in Funchal, Portugal, and is part of the C.S. Marítimo sports club. They currently compete in the top-tier Liga Portuguesa de Andebol, after stepping up from the Divisão de Elite In 2002, due to disputes with the Portuguese League Association, the Federation refused to consider the League Champion as National Champion. Funchal
Funchal () is the largest city, the municipal seat and the capital of Portugal's Madeira, Autonomous Region of Madeira, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team.
