Bury Titans
Bury Titans are rugby league team based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. They play in the East Division of the Rugby League Conference. History ''South Norfolk Saints'' joined the Eastern Division of the Rugby League Conference in 1998. In this inaugural season, they won their division and qualified for the grand final where they lost to Crawley Jets. South Norfolk Saints who took a year off from the Conference in the 2002 season and played in the London League instead. They re-joined the Eastern Division in 2003. South Norfolk Saints rebranded as ''Thetford Titans'' for the 2008 season and ''Bury Titans'' in 2009. Titan (mythology)
In Greek mythology, the Titans ( grc, οἱ Τῑτᾶνες, ''hoi Tītânes'', , ''ho Tītân'') were the pre-Olympian gods. Rugby League Conference East Division
The East Rugby League (East RL) is a tier 5 amateur rugby league competition structure with sides from the East of England. It was previously the ''East Division'' of the Rugby League Conference, which was set up in 1997. Structure The East Rugby League consists of three divisions of competition. Premier, Division 1 and Entry league. The East Premier was set up for the 2013 season with an East Entry League below this for emerging clubs and second teams. 2013 is also the inaugural year for the East Cup. The competition operates for all tier 4 clubs in the Eastern Counties of England. Rugby League Conference
The Rugby League Conference (RLC) (also known as the Co-operative Rugby League Conference as a result of sponsorship from The Co-operative Group), was a series of regionally based divisions of amateur rugby league teams spread throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The RLC was founded as the 10-team Southern Conference League in 1997, with teams from the southern midlands and the south east, but has subsequently, rebranded and expanded both geographically and numerically to include around 90 teams stretched across almost the whole of Great Britain from Aberdeen in northern Scotland down to Plymouth on the south coast of England. The aim of the RLC was initially to provide regular fixtures for new clubs based outside the 'heartland' of rugby league, although as the playing standards increased, it also accepted teams from the 'heartlands'. London League (rugby League)
The London and South East Merit League is a rugby league competition founded in 1965. It is also known as the ''London League'' (LL), ''London, South and East Merit League'', ''London Amateur Rugby League'' (LARL) and ''London Merit League'' (LML). It is now one of four feeder leagues for the Rugby League Conference (RLC). There is also a London Junior League for youth teams. Structure The merit system, which gives its unofficial name to the league as the London Merit League, came about as a way to accommodate the needs of as many of clubs as possible. The "merit table" system gives teams, freedom to arrange as many or few games amongst the other league participants as they wish. The results of fixtures worked out between the teams are compiled into a league table based on average scores. The top six teams then go through to a play-off system to determine the champion club. Bury St Edmunds RUFC is a rugby union club based in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. Founded in 1925 as Bury and West Suffolk Rugby Football Club, the Men's 1st XV currently play in the fourth tier of the English league system, National League 2 East. The club has 4 senior Men's sides, and a women's side as well who play in the 3rd tier of the RFU system, Championship Midlands 2. History Bury St Edmunds RUFC played their first match as "Bury and West Suffolk Rugby Football Club" in 1925, with post-war practice taking place at Culford School. In 1974, seventeen members of the team were killed when Turkish Airlines Flight 981 crashed outside Paris. In 2001, the first team was promoted to London 3 North East, winning the league six years later to be promoted to London 2 North in 2007.
