Burmese Art
Art of Myanmar refers to visual art created in Myanmar (Burma). From the 1400s CE, artists have been creating paintings and sculptures that reflect the Burmese culture. Burmese artists have been subjected to government interference and censorship, hindering the development of art in Myanmar. Burmese art reflects the central Buddhist elements including the mudra, Jataka tales, the pagoda, and Bodhisattva. Art of the Shan Period Art historians do not have an agreed-upon definition of Shan art. It is believed to have originated between 1550 and 1772 CE, which was around the time that the two kingdoms of Lan Na and Lan Xang were both under the support of the Burmese. Min Wae Aung ( my, မင်းဝေအောင်; born 1960) is an international contemporary artist from Myanmar whose realistic work is characterized by its strong relationship to Burmese culture and Buddhist philosophy. Myint Swe (painter)
Myint Swe ( my, မြင့်ဆွေ, ; born 24 May 1951) is a Burmese politician and retired army general currently serving as Acting President of Myanmar as well as First Vice President. He previously served as the acting president after the resignation of President Htin Kyaw on 21 March 2018, and the chief minister of Yangon Region from 30 March 2011 to 30 March 2016. On 30 March 2016, he was sworn in as the vice president of Myanmar. A member of the military proxy Union Solidarity and Development Party, he is an ethnic Mon former lieutenant general in the Myanmar Army. MPP Yei Myint
MPP Yei Myint ( my, ရဲမြင့်, ; also spelled Ye Myint; born 1953) is a Burma, Burmese artist. He was born in 1953 in Myingyan and studied at the State School of Fine Arts in Mandalay. Yei Myint is a student of Win Pe, who taught at this school. He was one of two Burmese artists who participated in the 1999 Philip Morris ASEAN Art Awards. He is one of the most recognized artists in Myanmar. He stands out as an important contemporary artist in Myanmar for his innovative use of visual vocabulary. Yei Myint creates drawings, paintings and collages with a variety of styles. His innovative paintings use bold brush strokes. The National Museum of Myanmar (Yangon), ( my, အမျိုးသား ပြတိုက်), located in Dagon, Yangon, is the major one of the two national museums for Burmese art, history and culture in Myanmar. Founded in 1952, the five-storey museum has an extensive collection of ancient artifacts, ornaments, work of art, inscriptions and historic memorabilia, related to history, culture and civilization of Burmese people. Lun Gywe
Lun Gywe ( my, လွန်းကြွယ်, ; born 24 October 1930) is a Burma, Burmese painter who works in oil and watercolor. Outside of Myanmar his work has been exhibited, often in solo shows, in Japan, the Republic of Korea, the People's Republic of China, Australia, New York City, the Republic of Singapore. Life Lun Gywe was born in Yangon, Myanmar on 24 September 1930, and was raised by his mother after his father died when he was five months old. From an early age he spent much of his time drawing. He studied under Thet Win, Chit Maung, San Win (painter), San Win, Thein Han (painter) and Ngwe Gaing, and graduated from the Art Institute of Teacher's Training in 1954.
