Burgersfort
Burgersfort is located in the valley of the Spekboom River at the edge of the Bushveld Complex in the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, near the border of the two provinces Limpopo and Mpumalanga. The town was named after a hexagonal fort built there during the 1876-77 Second War against the Bapedi of Chief Sekhukhune, and was named after President TF Burgers of the ZAR. The town serves as a meeting point for two major roads, the R37 and R555. The region is rich in platinum and platinum group metals. R37 (South Africa)
The R37 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Polokwane with Nelspruit (Mbombela) via Burgersfort and Lydenburg. Route The R37 begins in Polokwane Central (Capital of Limpopo), at a junction with the two one-way streets that form the R101 Route (Grober Street & Thabo Mbeki Street), just west of the R101's intersection with the R71 Route. It begins by going southwards as Kerk Street to form a junction with the Polokwane Eastern Bypass ( N1 National Route) and become the western border of the Polokwane Game Reserve. The R37 heads southwards for 30 kilometres as the Chuniespoort Pass to meet the northern terminus of the R579 Road. The R555 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Springs with Ohrigstad via Delmas, Ogies, Witbank, Middelburg, Stoffberg and Burgersfort. Route The R555 begins in Springs, Gauteng, at an intersection with the R29 Road north of the city centre. It goes north-east as Welgedacht Road and after 8 kilometres, it becomes the road eastwards by way of a right turn. It heads east-north-east into Mpumalanga, initially paralleling the N12 Highway. It goes for 20 kilometres, passing through Eloff, to cross the cosigned R42/ R50 Road in Delmas. Bapedi
The Pedi or (also known as the Northern Sotho or and the Marota or ) – are a southern African ethnic group that speak Pedi or ''Sepedi'', a dialect belonging to the Sotho-Tswana enthnolinguistic group. Northern Sotho is a term used to refer to one of South Africa's 11 official languages. Northern Sotho or Sesotho sa Leboa consist of 33 dialects, of which Pedi is one of them. The BaPedi people are almost exclusively found in South Africa's northeastern provinces which are Limpopo, and parts of northern Mpumalanga. There is confusion regarding the distinction between BaPedi people, and tribes referred to Northern Sotho (''Basotho ba Lebowa).'' Steelpoort is a mining town on the R555 road in Sekhukhune District Municipality in the Limpopo province of South Africa. It is located on the border with Mpumalanga province. The platinum-group metals (abbreviated as the PGMs; alternatively, the platinoids, platinides, platidises, platinum group, platinum metals, platinum family or platinum-group elements (PGEs)) are six noble, precious metallic elements clustered together in the periodic table. Sekhukhune
Sekhukhune I (Matsebe; circa 1814 – 13 August 1882) was the paramount King of the Marota, more commonly known as the Bapedi, from 21 September 1861 until his assassination on 13 August 1882 by his rival and half-brother, Mampuru II. As the Pedi paramount leader he was faced with political challenges from boer settlers, the independent South African Republic (Dutch: ''Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek''), the British Empire, and considerable social change caused by Christian Missionaries, Christian missionaries. Sekhukhune was the son of Sekwati, Sekwati I, and succeeded him upon his death in 20 September 1861 after forcibly taking the throne from his half-brother and the heir apparent Mampuru II. Bushveld
The Bushveld (from af, bosveld, af, bos 'bush' and af, veld) is a tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and shrublands, sub-tropical woodland ecoregion of Southern Africa. It encompasses most of Limpopo Province and a small part of the North West Province (South Africa), North West Province of South Africa, the Central and North-East Districts of Botswana and the Matabeleland South and part of the Matabeleland North provinces of Zimbabwe.
