Buraan
Buraan, also known as Hiil Buraan or Hiil Borraan, is a town in the eastern Sanaag region of Somaliland/ Somalia. It is effectively controlled by Puntland, but it is a disputed area with Somaliland. Overview Buraan is situated in eastern Sanaag, near the Bari region. Along with Las Khorey and Hadaftimo, it is considered to be one of the oldest settlements in the province. During the British colonial period, four settlements, Buraan in the Sool Plateau and Ceel-Doofaa, Xubeera, and Hadaftimo in the Gebi Valley, were identified in this area. Transportation In 2012, the Puntland Highway Authority (PHA) announced a project to connect Buraan and other remote or littoral towns in Puntland to the main regional highway. The 750 km thoroughfare links major cities in the northern part of Somalia, such as Bosaso, Galkayo and Garowe, with towns in the south. Bali Busle
Bali busle is a town in the Eastern Sanaag region of Puntland (Somalia). Somaliland also has a claim to the territory, and Dhahar District in the administrative division of Somaliland. After the Somali Civil War, settlements were established to make charcoal from acacia trees. There is also a town of the same name in the Mudug region. Hadaftimo
Hadaftimo ( so, Hadaaftimo) is an historic town in the eastern Sanaag region. It is home to several archaeological sites and ancient buildings. There is a Puntland military base. History Hadaftimo is an old town. During the British Somaliland, four settlements were identified in the vicinity: Buraan in the Sool Plateau, El Dahir, Xubeera, Hadaftimo in the Gebi Valley. Around 1990, the Somali National Movement attacked Hadaftimo, a home of the Warsangeli clan, causing a large number of refugees. However, this attack was later condemned by Somali National Movement leaders. In mid-1992, an Islamist militant group Al-Itihaad al-Islamiya (AIAI) moved into the Sanaag region, and the Warsangali clan held a meeting in Hadaftimo and resolved to unify Somalia and prevent the AIAI from entering. Badhan, Sanaag
Badhan ( so, Badhan; ar, برن), also known as Baran is a city in the Sanaag region of Somaliland. Overview It was always in danger of flooding during the raining seasons. In 1971, the town was re-located near a borewell called Badhan and it has assumed the name ever since. The area was first settled in the 14th century by Somali herdsmen from the Warsangali subclan of the Darod clan, as there was water available for their flocks. Badhan is also famous for being the stage of battles between the Dervishes of Mohammed Abdullah Hassan and the Sultanate of Warsangeli. Hingalol
Hingalol or Hingalool ( so, Xingalool) is a district located in the Sanaag region of Somalia. Overview Hingalol is situated on the Hadeed Plateau of the Sanaag region. Hingalol was established in 1958. A small hamlet, it increased in size and population in the wake of the Somali Civil War and became a full district.
