Buket Uzuner
Buket Uzuner (born 3 October 1955, in Ankara, Turkey) is a Turkish writer, author of novels, short stories, and travelogues. She studied biology and environmental science and has conducted research and presented lectures at universities in Turkey, Norway, the United States, and Finland. Her works have been translated into eight languages: Spanish, English, Italian, Greek, Romanian, Hebrew, Korean, and Bulgarian. Biography Since the 1980s, Buket Uzuner has travelled as a "solo woman backpacker" including "inter-rail" tours in Europe and three other continents where she keeps writing her travel memoirs. Her first travelogue, ''The Travel Notes of A Brunette,'' (1988) sold more than 300,000 copies. Uzuner then wrote two more travel books: ''Travel Notes of An Urban Romantic,'' which questions the meaning of exoticism, and ''New York Logbook'', which are all collected lately in ''the Travel Library of Buket Uzuner''. Sevgi Soysal (born Sevgi Yenen; September 30, 1936 – November 22, 1976) was a Turkish writer. Personal life She was born in Istanbul on September 30, 1936 as the third child of six to Mithat Yenen, an architect-civil servant, and his German wife Anneliese Rupp , who took later the Turkish name Aliye. After completing high school in Ankara, Soysal studied archaeology at Ankara University, but left without graduating. She obtained her degree in the late 1960s. In 1956, she married poet and translator Özdemir Nutku. She followed her husband to Germany, where she attended lectures on archaeology and theatre at the University of Göttingen. Attilâ İlhan (15 June 1925 – 10 October 2005) was a Turkish poet, novelist, essayist, journalist and reviewer. Early life and education Attilâ İlhan was born in Menemen in İzmir Province, Turkey on 15 June 1925. He received most of his primary education in İzmir. However, because of his father's job, he completed his junior high school education in different cities. Aged 16 and enrolled in İzmir Atatürk High School, he got into trouble for sending a poem by Nazım Hikmet, a famous dissident communist Turkish poet, to a girl he was in love with. The International Writing Program (IWP) is a writing residency for international artists in Iowa City, Iowa. Since 2014, the program offers online courses to many writers and poets around the world.
