Budgett is a surname. According to Reaney,Reaney, P.H., and Wilson, R.M. ''A Dictionary of English Surnames.'' Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1997. Rev. 3rd ed. . Budgett is cognate with Burchard and similar names. However it is not obvious how ''Burg'' would transform to ''Budg''. There is a verbal tradition in the family that they migrated from France and that the name originates from the French word ''bougette''. ''Bougette'', the diminutive of ''bouge'', means a small leather bag, pouch or wallet and is in fact the origin of the ordinary English and French word ''budget''. The Parish Register at Nunney in Somerset begins in 1547 and shows the surname ''Budget'' (in various spellings) from 1550 onwards. This seems to be the first appearance of the name in England. In historical linguistics, cognates or lexical cognates are sets of words in different languages that have been inherited in direct descent from an etymology, etymological ancestor in a proto-language, common parent language. Ceratophryidae
The Ceratophryidae, also known as common horned frogs, are a family of frogs found in South America. It is a relatively small family with three extant genera and 12 species. Despite the common name, not all species in the family have the horn-like projections at the eyes. They have a relatively large head with big mouth, and they are ambush predators able to consume large prey, including lizards, other frogs, and small mammals. They inhabit arid areas and are seasonal breeders, depositing many small eggs in aquatic habitats. Tadpoles are free-living and carnivorous (''Ceratophrys'' and ''Lepidobatrachus'') or grazers (''Chacophrys''). ''Lepidobatrachus laevis'', widely known as Budgett's frog, is a species of frog in the family Ceratophryidae, discovered by John Samuel Budgett. It is often kept as a pet. It has acquired a number of popular nicknames, including hippo frog, Freddy Krueger frog, and escuerzo de agua. Description This frog has become popular in pet stores due to its comical flat appearance and intelligent behavior. Females reach a size of while males sometimes only grow half as large. Samuel Budgett
Samuel Budgett (27 July 1794 – 29 April 1851) was an English merchant. Rising from humble origins, Budgett built up a wholesale grocery business called H.H. & S. Budgett, based in Kingswood Bristol, covering a large area of Southern and Western England and South Wales, which outlasted him by over a century. He was a devoted Wesleyan Methodist, who came close to offering himself as a missionary. Having chosen instead to work as a grocer to support his impoverished parents and siblings, he applied Christian principles to his business, setting improving standards in food purity and working conditions. He also began each day's business with a short Christian service for all staff. With his elder brother, Samuel Budgett made a big difference to Kingswood. Richard Gordon McBride Budgett OBE (born 20 March 1959) is a British Medical and Scientific Director of the International Olympic Committee. He won an Olympic rowing gold medal in coxed four at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He was chief medical officer at the London 2012 Summer Olympics. Rowing career Budgett was born in 1959 in Glasgow. He studied medicine at Selwyn College, University of Cambridge, where he was a member of the Hermes Club, and the Middlesex Hospital University of London and read his MSc in Sports Medicine at Queen Mary College, University of London. Budgett won the coxed pairs title with Tom Cadoux-Hudson and Adrian Ellison and the coxed fours title with Cadoux-Hudson, Steve King, Geraint Fuller and Ellison, rowing for Tyrian and London University composites, at the 1982 National Rowing Championships. John Samuel Budgett
John Samuel Budgett (16 June 1872 – 19 January 1904) was a British zoologist and embryologist. He spent most of his short career on the genus ''Polypterus'' (bichir). This is found in the lakes, river margins, swamps, and floodplains of tropical central and western Africa and the Nile River system. Zoologists at the time wondered whether it was a bony fish, a cartilaginous fish, a lungfish or a primitive amphibian. Forty years after the publication of Darwin’s Origin of Species, zoologists were seeking to map the history of species and this primitive animal was a key part of the map. To find its place there, it was necessary to observe juvenile ''Polypterus'' in the wild. It took Budgett four African expeditions but in the end he succeeded in doing so.
