Bucksport (also, Buck's Port) was a town in Humboldt County, California. The original location was southwest of downtown Eureka, on Humboldt Bay about northeast of entrance. at an elevation of . Prior to American settlement a Wiyot village named Kucuwalik stood here. The townsite was laid out in 1850 by David A. Bucksport is a historical town in Hancock County, Maine, United States. The population was 4,944 at the 2020 census. Bucksport is across the Penobscot River estuary from Fort Knox and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, which replaced the Waldo–Hancock Bridge. History The first inhabitants of Bucksport were a 5,000-year-old prehistoric culture known as the Red Paint People, that would later be referred to as the Maritime Archaic. They were thought to be a highly advanced native fishing culture that buried red paint in their graves along with stone tools and weapons. The first archaeological dig in the state of Maine, if not the entire United States, was initiated by Professor Charles Willoughby in 1891 on Indian Point, on a site where the present-day mill is located. Bucksport is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Bucksport in Hancock County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,885 at the 2010 census, down from 2,970 at the 2000 census. Geography The Bucksport CDP is the primary settlement in the town of Bucksport and is located in the southwestern part of the town limits at (44.577934, −68.794173). The western border of the CDP follows the Bucksport town line (and Hancock–Waldo County line) down the middle of the Penobscot River. The southern border follows the center of the Eastern Channel of the Penobscot, which separates Bucksport from the town of Verona Island. The southeastern border of the CDP follows the Bucksport– Orland town line, then follows Maine State Route 46 northeast to Russell Hill Road. The CDP border continues north and west, following Russell Hill Road, Bucksmills Road, Millvale Road, Cross Road, Silver Lake Road, and Town Farm Road to Maine State Route 15 at Bucksport Center.
