Brutus (Czech Band)
Brutus is a Czech rock band founded in 1967. They call their style "true bigbeat" (the Czech word '' bigbeat'' is different from the English use, and is more or less connected with 1960s rock and roll). History Brutus was established in 1967 under the name Mandragora in Rakovník. Its original members were Vlastimil Beneš, Libor Laun, Michal Pleska, Miloslav Černý, Zdeněk Havelka, Vladimír Lankaš, Václav Matějka, Ivan Mikšovic, Jindřich Průcha, Zdeněk Steidl, and Milan Tyburec. In 1973, their performances were banned by the Communist government and they started playing under the name Elektronik. The name was changed to Brutus in 1980 and there was a period (1982–1989) when they had to play as Kyklop. Since the Velvet Revolution in 1989, the band has again been called Brutus. Rakovník
Rakovník (, german: Rakonitz) is a town in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 15,000 inhabitants. The town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. Administrative parts Rakovník is made up of two town parts, Rakovník I and Rakovník II. Etymology According to a legend, the name was derived from ''rak'' (meaning "crayfish"), which was eaten here during a famine. Therefore this animal was adopted on the town's coat of arms and flag. However, the name was more likely derived from type of vegetation in wetlands by a stream, which gave the name to the stream and later to the town. Geography Rakovník is located about west of Prague and northeast of Plzeň. It lies in the Rakovník Uplands, on the border of the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area. UK Subs
U.K. Subs are an English punk rock band, among the earliest in the first wave of British punk. Formed in 1976, the mainstay of the band has been vocalist Charlie Harper, originally a singer in Britain's R&B scene. They were also one of the first hardcore punk bands. Career 1976–1978 Although the U.K. Subs were part of the original punk movement in England, the band originally started playing as part of the pub rock scene under the name The Marauders. In 1976, after seeing a couple of punk rock shows at The Roxy, the band decided to become a punk rock band, changing their name at first to the Subversives but later modifying it to the U.K. Subs. Comeback (TV Series)
''Comeback'' is a Czech television sitcom that premiered on TV Nova on 4 September 2008. Synopsis The sitcom revolves around Tomáš Pacovský (Tomáš Matonoha), owner of a music store named U Dvou Akordů (At the Two Chords), and his family. His brother Ozzák ( Martin Dejdar) (the name 'Ozzák' is an allusion to an Ozzy Osbourne fan) is a chronic alcoholic who loves heavy metal music. The majority of jokes and gags are about his alcoholism and his absolute belief in metal music. Ozzák professes this opinion: Music which isn't related (more or less) to metal is trash, and not worth selling, but metal is the real deal, and so it should be given away for free. The Vibrators
The Vibrators are a British punk rock band that formed in 1976. Early career The Vibrators were founded by Ian ' Knox' Carnochan, bassist Pat Collier, guitarist John Ellis, and drummer John 'Eddie' Edwards. They first came to public notice at the 100 Club when they backed Chris Spedding in 1976. On Spedding's recommendation, Mickie Most signed them to his label RAK Records. Most produced their first single, "We Vibrate". The band also backed Spedding on his single, "Pogo Dancing". The Vibrators recorded sessions for John Peel at BBC Radio 1 in October 1976, June 1977, and February 1978. They were one of the pioneering punk bands that played at London's Roxy Club. No Name (Slovak Band)
No Name is a Slovak rock band. It was formed in Košice on 26 August 1996 by Viliam Gutray and three Timko brothers - Igor, Roman, and Ivan. Marián Čekovský joined No Name as a keyboardist and was replaced by Zoli Šallai after leaving the band. A few years later, the youngest Timko brother, Dušan, also became a member of No Name. No Name became known to Slovak audiences in part by playing the Bratislavská lýra festival , but their came with their second album, ''Počkám si na zázrak'' (I'll Wait for a Miracle), which featured the hit singles "Ty a Tvoja sestra" (You and Your Sister) and "Žily" (Veins). Zóna A is a Slovak punk rock band formed in 1984 in Bratislava. The lead vocalist Peter "Koňýk" Schredl is the only co-founder who is still in the band. History The band was formed in 1984 by the lead vocalist Peter "Koňýk" Schredl and the guitarist "Leďo", former members of Paradox (a punk band established in 1980), drummer "Ozi", guitarist "Sveťo" (former members of Ex Tip, another punk band established in 1980) and with the bassist Braňo Alex. Suzi Quatro
Susan Kay Quatro (born June 3, 1950) is an American singer, bass guitarist, songwriter, and actress. In the 1970s, she scored a string of hit singles that found greater success in Europe and Australia than in her homeland, reaching No. 1 in the UK, other European countries and Australia with her singles "Can the Can" (1973) and "Devil Gate Drive" (1974). TV Smith
Timothy "T. V." Smith (born 5 April 1956) is an English singer-songwriter who was part of punk band The Adverts in the late 1970s. Since then he has fronted other bands, as well as pursuing a solo career. Biography Smith and Gaye Black (a.k.a. Gaye Advert) moved from, respectively, Okehampton in mid-Devon, and Bideford, a small coastal town in Devon, to form The Adverts in London in 1976. The Adverts are best known for their 1977 hit single "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" and acclaimed 1978 debut album ''Crossing the Red Sea with the Adverts''. Following unsuccessful follow-up album ''Cast of Thousands'', The Adverts split up in late 1979, and Smith formed a new band, T.V. Smith's Explorers. Velvet Revolution
The Velvet Revolution ( cs, Sametová revoluce) or Gentle Revolution ( sk, Nežná revolúcia) was a non-violent transition of power in what was then Czechoslovakia, occurring from 17 November to 28 November 1989. Popular demonstrations against the one-party government of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia included students and older dissidents. The result was the end of 41 years of one-party rule in Czechoslovakia, and the subsequent dismantling of the command economy and conversion to a parliamentary republic. On 17 November 1989 (International Students' Day), riot police suppressed a student demonstration in Prague. The event marked the 50th anniversary of a violently suppressed demonstration against the Nazi storming of Prague University in 1939 where 1,200 students were arrested and 9 killed (see Origin of International Students' Day).
