Bruce Milne
Bruce Milne (born 1957) is an Australian radio presenter and music journalist. He co-founded Au-Go-Go Records and the cassette magazine ''Fast Forward'', and was owner of The Tote Hotel. Career Milne began his career in the 1970s hosting music programs on Swinburne Tech radio, 3CR Melbourne, and community radio station 3RRR. He co-founded ''Pulp'', a punk fanzine created with Clinton Walker in 1977, and went onto edit '' Roadrunner'', another music magazine which launched in March 1978. Milne left the magazine as it didn't make enough money and began working for Missing Link Records. Between November 1978 - October 1982 he co-edited the audio cassette magazine ''Fast Forward'' with co-founder Andrew Maine. Described as a tape-recorded radio show, it was distributed overseas by Rough Trade but ended after its two founders fell out. The magazine has since been digitised and is hosted by RMIT University. Sub Pop is a record label founded in 1986 by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman. Sub Pop achieved fame in the early 1990s for signing Seattle bands such as Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney, central players in the grunge movement. They are often credited with helping popularize grunge music. Australian Music Vault
The Australian Music Vault is a free permanent exhibition that showcases past and present Australian contemporary music. It is located in the central Melbourne suburb of Southbank, within the Arts Centre Melbourne. Australian Music Vault exhibits physical objects such as costumes, lyric books, and tour paraphernalia from the Arts Centre Melbourne's Australian Performing Arts Collection. Exhibits include material from artists such as Baker Boy, Mo’Ju, Missy Higgins, Chrissy Amphlett, AC/DC, Olivia Newton-John, Archie Roach, and Kylie Minogue, as well as interactive digital activities. Recorded interviews with musicians and key music industry promoters are also displayed. It was developed by Arts Centre Melbourne in consultation with the music industry. Mary Mihelakos
Mary Mihelakos is an Australian music promoter and journalist. In 2020 she was inducted into the Music Victoria hall of fame. Career Mihelakos began working as a volunteer for Melbourne radio station 3RRR when she was 14, helping with administration, compiling gig guides, and meeting band managers. Through these connections she began booking bands for the Punters Club at 17, before moving to the nearby Evelyn Hotel. She studied media and journalism at Swinburne University of Technology and during her first year became manager for The Earthmen. Beginning in 1995, Mihelakos was editor of Melbourne's music street press title ''Beat Magazine'', after previously contributing writing to them as a student. In 2003 Mihelakos and Glenn Dickie started the Aussie BBQ showcase of Australian music at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. Prahran, Victoria
Prahran (), also pronounced colloquially as Pran, is an inner suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 5 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Stonnington local government area. Prahran recorded a population of 12,203 at the 2021 census. Prahran is a part of Greater Melbourne, with many shops, restaurants and cafes. Chapel Street is a mix of upscale fashion boutiques and cafes. Greville Street, once the centre of the Melbourne's hippie community, has many cafés, bars, restaurants, bookstores, clothing shops and music shops. Prahran takes its name from Pur-ra-ran, a Boonwurrung word which was thought to mean "land partially surrounded by water". In-Fidelity Recordings is a record label founded in September 2002 by Bruce Milne and Steven Stavrakis. Bruce Milne established the Au Go Go label and Stavrakis was co-founder of Waterfront Records and Fellaheen. Between them they have worked with such seminal Australian acts as Magic Dirt, Spiderbait, Ratcat, The Meanies, The Hardons, The Scientists, Ben Lee, Snout and Eastern Dark. They have also been involved in introducing international acts such as Sonic Youth, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr, Mudhoney and Butthole Surfers to an Australian audience. The first release on the label was the debut album from The Datsuns. The band had been feted by major labels around the world, finally signing a one-album deal with V2 Records in all territories outside Australia and New Zealand where they chose to go with In-Fidelity. PolyGram N.V. was a multinational entertainment company and major music record label formerly based in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1962 as the Grammophon-Philips Group by Dutch corporation Philips and German corporation Siemens, to be a holding for their record companies, and was renamed "PolyGram" in 1972.
