Brian Kuhlman
Brian A. Kuhlman is an American professor of biochemistry and biophysics at the UNC School of Medicine of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Sloan Research Fellow. Early life Kuhlman obtained Bachelor of Arts degree in chemical physics from Rice University in 1992. From 1993 to 1998 he studied under guidance of Daniel Raleigh to earn his Ph.D. in chemistry from Stony Brook University and from 1999 to 2002 he studied under guidance from David Baker to obtain Damon Runyon Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Washington. Career In 2003, Kuhlman designed the first full-domain artificial protein, Top7, with Gautam Dantas and other researchers, in David Baker's laboratory. Biochemistry
Biochemistry or biological chemistry is the study of chemical processes within and relating to living organisms. A sub-discipline of both chemistry and biology, biochemistry may be divided into three fields: structural biology, enzymology and metabolism. Over the last decades of the 20th century, biochemistry has become successful at explaining living processes through these three disciplines. DeLano Award For Computational Biosciences
The DeLano Award for Computational Biosciences is a prize in the field of computational biology. It is awarded annually for "the most accessible and innovative development or application of computer technology to enhance research in the life sciences at the molecular level". The prize was established by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) in memory of Warren Lyford DeLano, an American bioinformatician. DeLano developed the PyMOL open source molecular viewer software and was an advocate for the increased adoption of open source practices in the sciences. DeLano died unexpectedly in 2009. Laureates include the Nobel Prize winner Michael Levitt, who was given the Delano Award in 2013 for his work in computational bioscience. The Beckman Young Investigators Award was established by Mabel and Arnold Beckman in 1991, and is now administered by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation. The Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology is an award given by the Foresight Institute for significant advances in nanotechnology. Two prizes are awarded annually, in the categories of experimental and theoretical work. There is also a separate challenge award for making a nanoscale robotic arm and 8-bit adder. UNC Health is a not-for-profit medical system owned by the State of North Carolina and based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
