Brian Joseph Michael Cotter, Baron Cotter (born 24 August 1936) is a politician in the United Kingdom. He was Liberal Democrats (UK), Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament for Weston-super-Mare (UK Parliament constituency), Weston-super-Mare from 1997 United Kingdom general election, 1997 to 2005 United Kingdom general election, 2005. Early life Born in London, the son of a doctor from Weston-super-Mare, he was educated at Saint Benedict's School, Ealing, and Downside School in Somerset, where, aged sixteen, he ran a 4½ minute mile. Upon leaving school, he entered the British Army, serving two years National Service, spending time stationed in West Germany. He entered business after leaving the army. The term is predominantly used today as a style associated with the holding of certain senior public offices in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and to a lesser extent, Australia.
