Brassall is a suburb in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. In the , Brassall had a population of 10,898 people. Geography Brassall has a southern boundary partially marked by the Bremer River and a western alignment along Ironpot Creek. The northern boundary follows the Warrego Highway. Brassall now incorporates part of the old suburb of Raymonds Hill. History The suburb name first appears on a plan drawn by surveyor James Warner on 6 October 1851; however, the origin of the suburb name is unknown. It was also known as Hungry Flats, as was a stop over for bullock teams that were transporting logs from Pine Mountain to Hancocks saw mill at North Ipswich. Brassall was a separate shire ( Shire of Brassall) with its own council from March 1860 until 1 January 1917 when the area became part of the City of Ipswich. The Bremer River is a river that is a tributary of the Brisbane River, located in the Scenic Rim Region, Scenic Rim and Brisbane regions of South East Queensland, Australia. The -long Bremer River drains several Scenic Rim valleys in south-east Queensland, including the Fassifern Valley, with its drainage basin, catchment area covering approximately . Most valleys within the catchment have extensive river terraces. The Bremer River system is extremely degraded. Gerald Sharp (27 October 1865 – 30 August 1933) was an English-born Anglican clergyman, Archbishop of Brisbane 1921–1933. Early life Sharp was born at Childer Thornton, George P. The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) is a recreation trail from Wulkuraka to Yarraman in Queensland, Australia. The trail follows the old Brisbane Valley railway line and is open to walkers, touring cyclists and horse riders. The trail details the history and landscape of the Brisbane Valley. It is the longest rail trail in Queensland. Route The top end of the trail is located in Yarraman on Australia's Great Dividing Range – north-west of Brisbane and directly west of the Sunshine Coast. James Warner (surveyor)
James Warner (1814–1891) was a pioneer surveyor in Queensland, Australia. Arriving at Moreton Bay penal colony in 1838, he was one of three surveyors who surveyed the area now Brisbane and its surrounding areas. He worked for 50 years in the Survey Office of Queensland, surveying and naming many towns and other features. Career Warner was one of the three surveyors (the other two being Robert Dixon and Granville Stapylton) sent by New South Wales Governor George Gipps to the Moreton Bay penal colony, arriving on the ''Sarah Jane''. Their first task was to make a coastal survey and then to survey Brisbane and the surrounding districts in preparation for the closure of the penal colony and the opening of the area for free settlement in 1842.
