Bremer River (Queensland)
The Bremer River is a river that is a tributary of the Brisbane River, located in the Scenic Rim Region, Scenic Rim and Brisbane regions of South East Queensland, Australia. The -long Bremer River drains several Scenic Rim valleys in south-east Queensland, including the Fassifern Valley, with its drainage basin, catchment area covering approximately . Most valleys within the catchment have extensive river terraces. The Bremer River system is extremely degraded. European explorers John Oxley and Allan Cunningham (botanist), Allan Cunningham visited the river in 1824 and it was first named by Oxley as Bremer's Creek presumably after Captain James Bremer, James Gordon Bremer who was in charge of , at that time performing duties in the waters of the colony of New South Wales. James Bremer
Sir James John Gordon Bremer (26 September 1786 – 14 February 1850) was a Royal Navy officer. He served in the Napoleonic Wars, First Anglo-Burmese War, and First Anglo-Chinese War. In China, he served twice as commander-in-chief of British forces. Born in Portsea, Portsmouth, Bremer joined the Royal Naval College as a student in 1797. While serving in the East Indies, he became commander of in 1807. He was promoted to captain in 1814 and was nominated a CB the following year. After becoming commander of HMS ''Tamar'', he was sent to Melville Island, Australia, in 1824 to establish a colony. Under his leadership, the north coast of Australia from 129° to 135° longitude was claimed as British territory. He also led the Battle of Berbera in 1827. Bremer served twice as commander-in-chief of British forces in the First Anglo-Chinese War from 1839 to 1841. Flinders Peak Group
The Flinders Peak Group is an unnamed range of hills located on the northern edge of the Scenic Rim Region, south west of Logan City and south east of the City of Ipswich in South East Queensland, Australia. The summit in the Range is Flinders Peak reaching above sea level. The first Europeans to cross the range were Patrick Logan and his exploration party in June 1827. Most of the range remains naturally vegetated within a series of protected areas. Both the Flinders-Goolman Conservation Estate and the Flinders Peak Conservation Park are located along this range. The Little Liverpool Range is a mountain range of the Scenic Rim and Lockyer Creek valley, part of the Great Dividing Range, which is located in the South East region of Queensland, Australia. Location and features The range extends from the Main Range to the west of Aratula northwards to Plainland, where the Warrego Highway crosses the range. The range forms the drainage divide between the Bremer River valley from the Laidley Creek valley, a tributary of Lockyer Creek.
