Brass (film)
''Brass'' is a 1923 American silent romantic drama film produced and distributed by Warner Bros. It was directed by Sidney A. Franklin. This movie stars Monte Blue, Marie Prevost, and Irene Rich. The well-regarded film survives in 16mm format. Plot As described in a film magazine review, a young man born in the country leaves his family farm to engage in business in the city. He marries for the first time when he is still very young, finds the match a failure, gets a divorce, and starts life again. The hopelessness of life as far as a happy marriage is concerned forces itself on the young man, whose only brief period of happiness was enjoyed when he was living with a woman who really loves him and sacrifices for him. Cast Box office According to Warner Bros records the film earned $451,000 domestically and $28,000 in foreign markets. Preservation status ''Brass'' survives complete. Sidney Arnold Franklin (March 21, 1893 – May 18, 1972) was an American film director and producer. Franklin, like William C. deMille, specialized in adapting literary works or Broadway stage plays. His brother Chester Franklin (1889–1954) also became a director during the silent film era best known for directing the early Technicolor film ''The Toll of the Sea''. Pat O'Malley (actor Born 1890)
Pat O'Malley (September 3, 1890 – May 21, 1966) was an American vaudeville and stage performer prior to starting a prolific film career at the age of sixteen. He later had a career in television. Career O'Malley was born as Patrick Henry O'Malley, Jr. in Forest City, Pennsylvania. He had circus experience by the time he discovered an interest in motion pictures. His screen career dates from the days of Kalem and Edison Studios. From 1918 to 1927 he appeared in scores of silent films as both a leading man and a character actor i.e.: ''The Heart of Humanity'', ''My Wild Irish Rose'', '' The Virginian'' and in the adaptation of bestseller ''Brothers Under the Skin''. Associated Artists Productions, Inc. (a.a.p.) later known as United Artists Associated was an American distributor of theatrical feature films and subjects for television. Associated Artists Productions was the copyright owner of the ''Popeye'' shorts by Paramount Pictures, and the pre-1948 color ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' series of shorts produced by Warner Bros. Vera Lewis (June 10, 1873 – February 8, 1956) was an American film and stage actress, beginning in the silent film era. She appeared in more than 180 films between 1915 and 1947. She was married to actor Ralph Lewis. Biography She was born in Manhattan, where she began acting in stage productions. Edward Jobson (February 29, 1860 – February 7, 1925) was an American actor of stage and silent film. He started in silent films in his fifties. He had a sour yet sad bulldog demeanor and can be spotted in several surviving silent films.
