Branch River (Wisconsin)
The Branch River is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map, accessed December 19, 2011 river in eastern Wisconsin in the United States. It is a tributary of the Manitowoc River, which flows to Lake Michigan. The Branch River rises in Brown County about south of Green Bay, and flows generally southeastwardly into Manitowoc County. It joins the Manitowoc River about west of the city of Manitowoc. According to the Geographic Names Information System, the river has also been known as the "Center River" and as the "Centre River". The United States Board on Geographic Names settled on "Branch River" as the stream's official name in 1912. Manitowoc () is a city in and the county seat of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, United States. The city is located on Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Manitowoc River. According to the 2020 census, Manitowoc had a population of 34,626, with over 50,000 residents in the surrounding communities. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. It is a type of gazetteer.
