Bosque County, Texas
Bosque County ( ) is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,235. Its county seat is Meridian, while Clifton is the largest city and the cultural/financial center of the county. The county is named for the Bosque River, which runs through the center of the county north to south. The Brazos River makes up the eastern border along with the Lake Whitney reservoir it feeds. Since 2015, Bosque County has been represented in the Texas House of Representatives by the Republican DeWayne Burns. The previous 10-year representative was the Republican Rob Orr of Burleson. History In 1721, while traveling from San Antonio de Béxar to a mission in East Texas, the Marqués de San Miguel de Aguayo ventured north from the Old San Antonio Road, and camped along the Brazos River. Bosque County Courthouse
A bosque ( ) is a type of gallery forest habitat found along the riparian flood plains of stream and river banks in the southwestern United States. It derives its name from the Spanish word for ' woodlands'. Setting In the predominantly arid or semi-arid southwestern United States, a bosque is an oasis-like ribbon of green vegetation, often canopied, that only exists near rivers, streams, or other water courses. The most notable bosque is the -long ecosystem along the valley of the middle Rio Grande in New Mexico that extends from Santa Fe south to El Paso, Texas. One of the most famous and ecologically intact sections of the bosque is included in the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. Old San Antonio Road
The Old San Antonio Road was a historic roadway located in the U.S. states of Texas and Louisiana. Parts of it were based on traditional Native American trails. Its Texas terminus was about southeast of Eagle Pass at the Rio Grande in Maverick County, and its northern terminus was at Natchitoches, Louisiana. The road continued from Texas through Monclova to Mexico City. The Old San Antonio Road is considered a part of El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail. Route Louisiana Highway 6 mostly runs alongside the Old San Antonio Road for the entirety of its route through that state from Natchitoches to west of Many. Hill County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 35,874. Its county seat is Hillsboro. The county is named for George Washington Hill, secretary of war and secretary of the navy under the Republic of Texas. Johnson County, Texas
Johnson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 179,927. Its county seat is Cleburne. Johnson County is named for Middleton Johnson, a Texas Ranger, soldier, and politician. Johnson County is included in the Dallas–Fort Worth– Arlington metropolitan statistical area. History The first settler of Johnson County was Henry Briden, who built a log cabin on the Nolan River in 1849. His log cabin still exists, and can be seen along State Highway 174 in Rio Vista, Texas. The first county seat was Wardville, now located under the waters of Lake Pat Cleburne. In 1856, Buchanan became the county seat. Johnson County was divided in 1866, with the western half becoming Hood County. Somervell County, Texas
Somervell County ( ) is a county on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 9,205. Its county seat is Glen Rose. The county is named for Alexander Somervell, secretary of war for the Republic of Texas. Somervell County is included in the Dallas-Fort Worth- Arlington metropolitan statistical area and the Granbury micropolitan area. The county contains the Comanche Peak Nuclear Generating Station, one of two nuclear power plants in Texas. State Highway 174 (SH 174) is a state highway in Texas that connects Meridian and Burleson. Route description SH 174 begins in Bosque County at an intersection with SH 22 in Meridian. The route travels northward out of the city and through Morgan. It briefly enters Hill County, passing to the north of Lake Whitney and the town of Blum, before crossing into Johnson County. Heading north into Cleburne, SH 174 has agreement with SH 171 and FM 4 through the city's downtown, where the routes cross Bus. US 67. After separating from SH 171 and FM 4, SH 174 has an interchange with the US 67 expressway before heading northward out of the city. Texas State Highway 144 (SH 144) is a state highway that runs from Meridian to Granbury in central Texas. Route description SH 144 begins at an intersection with SH 22 in Meridian. The route travels northwest to Walnut Springs before turning in a more northerly direction. It enters Glen Rose, where it has a one-mile concurrency with US 67. After separating from US 67, the highway resumes its northward journey to Granbury, where it intersects the US 377 bypass. The SH 144 designation ends at an intersection with Bus. State Highway 22 (SH 22) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that travels from Corsicana to Hamilton in the north central part of the state. History SH 22 was one of the 25 original state highways proposed on June 21, 1917, along a path from Wichita Falls to Comanche. On August 18, 1917, plans had been extended from Comanche eastward to Hillsboro. On September 10, 1917, plans had been extended from Hillsboro eastward to Nacogdoches. On March 17, 1919, SH 22 was extended to Logansport. Construction was slow, and on August 21, 1923, most of the section from Wichita Falls to Comanche had been reassigned to SH 79 and SH 67, while SH 22 ran from De Leon to Corsicana. State Highway 6 (Texas)
State Highway 6 (SH 6) runs from the Red River, the Texas–Oklahoma state line, to northwest of Galveston, where it is known as the Old Galveston Highway. In Sugar Land and Missouri City, it is known as Alvin-Sugarland Road and runs perpendicular to Interstate 69/ U.S. Highway 59 (I-69/US 59).
