Boricua En La Luna
"Boricua en la Luna" is originally a poem by Juan Antonio Corretjer. Puerto Rican singer/songwriter Roy Brown popularized it by adapting it to song. It was first featured on the album ''Árboles'', from Brown and Cuban singer Silvio Rodríguez and became one of Brown's most popular songs. Song history On the booklet of Roy Brown's hits album ''Colección'', he writes that the song "could've never been". Brown writes that in the late 70s, Corretjer handed him the lyrics, which he intended to be ''décimas'', to see if Roy could come up with something. Brown, who at the time was moving to New York City, forgot about them. Several years later, when Corretjer died, Brown started looking for the ''décimas'', but had a hard time finding them. A year later, Brown finally found them and says the music came "like a yank". However, he broke his finger playing basketball so he was unable to play it for a year. Roy Brown Ramírez (born July 18, 1945 in Orlando, Florida) is a Puerto Rican musician and singer.Liner notes of "Basta Ya... Revolución" (Disco Libre) Early years Brown's father was an American United States Navy, naval officer and his mother a native of Puerto Rican citizenship, Puerto Rico. Brown was raised during turbulent times in the United States. Among the important issues of those days were racism, the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. Most of these events went on to form an important part in his ideals and his way of thinking. In the late-1960s, Brown enrolled in the University of Puerto Rico. He enjoyed writing poems and while he was a student, he became actively involved in groups against the Vietnam War, poor living conditions, and especially in favor of the independence movement of Puerto Rico. ''Un Junte para la Historia'' was a concert from three Puerto Rican bands: Fiel a la Vega, Haciendo Punto en Otro Son, and Moliendo Vidrio, celebrated in Puerto Rico on November 29, 1998. The concert was then released as a DVD and a CD. The concert featured four sets. The first three sets consisted of each band presenting some of their hit songs. The last set, featured a "junte" (slang for get together) of all three bands performing hit songs from each other. Moliendo Vidrio (originally called Moliendo Vidrio con el Pecho) is a Nueva Trova band from Puerto Rico, founded in 1975. Band members included Gary Núñez, Sunshine Logroño, Rosita Velázquez, Iván Martínez, Pedro Villalón and Carmen Nydia Velázquez, among many others. Moliendo Vidrio's repertoire has been sung by generations and it has become part of the Puerto Rican folklore. ''Haciendo Punto en Otro Son'' is a ''Nueva Trova'' band from Puerto Rico, founded in 1975. They recorded fourteen albums and performed in Latin America, the Caribbean and United States. ''El Concierto Acústico'' is the first live album by the Puerto Rican rock band Fiel a la Vega, and their second album overall. The album was recorded at the Performing Arts Center in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, during the concerts the band held on July 19–21, 1997. It was released later that year. The album consists of acoustic versions of songs from the band's first album, ''Fiel a la Vega'' and cover versions of some of the artists that influenced them, including Roy Brown, Silvio Rodríguez and Leon Gieco. Alfonso "Tito" Auger Vega (born 3 March 1968, in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican musician best known for being the lead singer of the Rock en Español band Fiel a la Vega. Auger is also the band's main songwriter, together with Ricky Laureano. Biography Early years and schooling Auger was born in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, and grew up in the town of Vega Alta. He is the son of Alfonso Auger Cabrera and Olga Vega Colón. Auger studied in the ''Nuestra Señora del Rosario'' school in Vega Baja. Fiel a La Vega is a Rock en Español band from Puerto Rico formed in 1994. The band consisted of members Tito Auger and Ricky Laureano (vocals and guitars), who come from the northern city of Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, along with brothers Pedro and Jorge Arraiza (drums and bass), who come from the neighboring city of Vega Baja. Their hometown is what gave name to the band. Since 1996, they were joined by percussionist Papo Román, who left the band in 2006 to spend time with his family.
