Boogaloo (Nazareth Album)
''Boogaloo'' is the twentieth studio album by the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth, released in August 1998. It was produced by Mike Ging. It was the last studio recording to feature drummer and founding member Darrell Sweet before his death in 1999. The album also features guest performances by bassist Pete Agnew's son Lee, who later replaced Sweet as the band's drummer. The album was recorded at the Parkgate studios, Catsfield in East Sussex in 1997. 11 of the 12 tracks were mixed in early 1998, with horns and guitar overdubs added. During the original recording, the Hale-Bopp comet was clearly visible. Original versions of some tracks (as mixed in 1997), including one that didn't make the 1998 remix, were included in the Loud And Proud box set. The character on the album artwork is known as 'Boogaloo'. Nazareth (band)
Nazareth are a Scottish hard rock band formed in Dunfermline in 1968 that had several hits in Canada, the United Kingdom, and a number of other European countries in the early 1970s. The breadth of their popularity expanded internationally, including in the USA, with their 1975 album ''Hair of the Dog'', which featured their hits "Hair of the Dog" and a cover of the ballad "Love Hurts". They have continued to record and tour for more than fifty years. Career Nazareth formed in December 1968 in Dunfermline, Scotland, from the remaining members of semi-professional local group The Shadettes (formed in 1961) by vocalist Dan McCafferty, guitarist Manny Charlton, bassist Pete Agnew, and drummer Darrell Sweet. Darrell Sweet (musician)
Darrell Antony Sweet (16 May 1947 – 30 April 1999) was an English drummer for the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth. He was a co-founder of Nazareth, which was formed in 1968. Nazareth Sweet was born in Bournemouth, England. His early years were spent playing with the Burntisland pipe band. He was also one of the members of The Shadettes that later became Nazareth. As a founding member of Nazareth, he played hard rock drums from 1969 until his death in 1999. He played drums on Nazareth's first 20 albums. Death Sweet died of a heart attack in 1999, as the band prepared to set out on the second leg of its U.S. tour in support of their latest album, ''Boogaloo''. The band had arrived at Indiana's New Albany Amphitheater when the 51-year-old Sweet began to feel ill. Within minutes he had gone into cardiac arrest. Roddy Lorimer
Roddy Lorimer (born 19 May 1953) is a Scottish musician who plays trumpet and flugelhorn. He has performed with a wide array of artists, including Blur, Gene, the Rolling Stones, Draco Rosa, the Who, the Style Council, Eric Clapton, Suede, Supergrass, Beyoncé, Jamiroquai, Dr John, the Waterboys, Nik Kershaw, Bruce Foxton, Fish (of Marillion). He is a founding member of the horn section Kick Horns. Career Lorimer studied the trumpet at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. Ronnie Leahy
Ronald Leahy (born 4 October 1947 in Glasgow) is a Scottish keyboard player best known for his work with Jack Bruce, Jon Anderson, Steve Howe on his second solo album and Nazareth (1998–2002, when Leahy retired from touring). He first gained recognition as keyboardist in the second line-up of Scottish band Stone the Crows. He also played in White Trash with whom he published four singles in 1969. This band was formed by Fraser Watson on guitar, Ian McMillan on bass and vocals, Ronnie Leahy on keyboards and drummer Timi Donald. Jimmy Murrison
Jimmy Murrison (born 8 November 1964) is a Scottish lead guitar player, a member of the band Nazareth. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Murrison played with the band 'Trouble in Doggieland' (a fellow member being Pete Agnew's son Lee) before accepting an invitation to join Nazareth in 1994, replacing Billy Rankin. Dan McCafferty
William Daniel McCafferty (14 October 1946 – 8 November 2022) was a vocalist and songwriter best known as the lead singer for the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth from its founding in 1968 to his retirement from touring with the band in 2013. Biography McCafferty was born in Dunfermline, Fife. Under the influence of artists such as Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Otis Redding, he became one of the founding members of Nazareth in 1968. He appeared on all of Nazareth's albums up to 2014 and toured with them for 45 years. He co-wrote some of the big Nazareth hits, including "Broken Down Angel", and "Bad Bad Boy". Pete Agnew
Pete Agnew (born 14 September 1946) is a Scottish bassist and backing vocalist for the hard rock band Nazareth. Born in Dunfermline, he is the sole continuous member who still is performing with the band, which released its first album '' Nazareth'' in 1971, and the last founding member who remains alive. Agnew formed a rock combo called the Shadettes in 1961, performing for eight years as the band's rhythm guitarist. In 1969 the band needed a new bassist. He once quipped, "I never even wanted to play the bass (laughter). The only reason why I started playing the bass was because there was nobody in Dunfermline who could do it (laughter)."
