Bonnier Family
The Bonnier family is a Swedish family, originally of German Jewish descent, who since the beginning of the 19th century has been active in the book industry and later also in the mass media industry. They own the media group Bonnier Group, with the largest owners being Åke Bonnier and Jonas Bonnier. The group has 175 companies in 18 countries. History The earliest known member of the patriarchal line of the family was a cloth salesman named Jacob Schye (born 1674), who was from the town of Sobědruhy (Soborten) in Bohemia (now in the Czech Republic). His son, the jeweler Löbel Schie (1718–1790), fathered the jeweler and coin dealer Löbel Salomon Hirschel (born 1745). Hirschel's son, Gutkind Hirschel (1778–1862), moved from Germany to Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1801 and changed his name to Gerhard Bonnier. There, Gerhard started a small book store in 1804. Swedes ( sv, svenskar) are a North Germanic ethnic group native to the Nordic region, primarily their nation state of Sweden, who share a common ancestry, culture, history and language. Joakim Bonnier
Joakim Bonnier (31 January 1930 – 11 June 1972) was a Swedish sportscar racing and Formula One driver who raced for various teams. He was the first Swede to both enter and win a Formula One Grand Prix. Early life Jo Bonnier was born in Stockholm, to the wealthy Bonnier family. His father, Gert, was a professor of genetics at the University of Stockholm, while many members of his extensive family were in the publishing business. He spoke six languages and, although his parents hoped that he would become a doctor, for a while it was his aspiration to enter the family publishing business. Åke Gabriel Bonnier (born 11 December 1957) is Bishop of Skara in the Church of Sweden since September 2012. Through inheritance, he is also the second largest owner of the Bonnier group. Eva Fredrika Bonnier (17 November 1857 – 13 January 1909) was a Swedish painter and philanthropist. __TOC__ Biography Born in Stockholm as the daughter of publisher Albert Bonnier and a member of a leading family of publishers, Bonnier studied painting with August Malmström and became a student in the women's section of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm in 1878. Together with her friend and co-student Hanna Hirsch, she traveled to Paris in 1883, staying there until 1889. Her painting "Music" (1889) was awarded a ''mention honorable'' at the Paris Salon. Albert Bonnier (October 21, 1820, in Copenhagen — July 26, 1900, in Stockholm) was a Swedish book publisher and entrepreneur. Life Albert Bonnier was the son of Gerhard Bonnier, a Jewish merchant and his wife Ester (née Elkan). Gerhard Bonnier was born in Dresden in 1778 as Gutkind Hirschel and later emigrated to Copenhagen. There he changed his name to Bonnier and founded a publishing house. Bonnier's older brother Adolf was from 1827 in Gothenburg as a bookseller and moved two years later to Stockholm. Albert followed him and worked from 1839 to 1865 with his brother.
