Whistler Sliding Centre
The Whistler Sliding Centre (french: link=no, Centre des sports de glisse de Whistler) is a Canadian bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track located in Whistler, British Columbia, that is north of Vancouver. The centre is part of the Whistler Blackcomb resort, which comprises two ski mountains separated by Fitzsimmons Creek. Located on the lowermost slope of the northern mountain (Blackcomb Mountain), Whistler Sliding Centre hosted the bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton competitions for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Design work started in late 2004 with construction taking place from June 2005 to December 2007. Bobsledders Pierre Lueders and Justin Kripps of Canada took the first run on the track on 19 December 2007. Bobsleigh At The 2006 Winter Olympics – Two-woman
The Two-woman bobsleigh competition at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy was held on 20 and 21 February, at Cesana Pariol. Records While the IOC does not consider bobsled times eligible for Olympic records, the FIBT does maintain records for both the start and a complete run at each track it competes. Prior to this competition, the existing Cesana Pariol track records were as follows. The following track records were established during this event. Results 15 of the 16 two-woman teams entered for the event completed all four runs, with the Netherlands-1 team of Broeders and Pennings the only team not to do so. The Dutch pair crashed on the first run, and, while neither was injured, they did not compete in subsequent runs. The total time for all four runs was used to determine the final ranking. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS; french: Tribunal arbitral du sport, ''TAS'') is an international body established in 1984 to settle disputes related to sport through arbitration. The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF), originally known by the French name ''Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing'' (FIBT), is the international sports federation for bobsleigh and skeleton. It acts as an umbrella organization for 14 national bobsleigh and skeleton associations . It was founded on 23 November 1923 by the delegates of Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Canada, and the United States at the meeting of their first International Congress in Paris, France. In June 2015, it announced a name change from FIBT to IBSF. The federation's headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the federation suspended the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials. Michelle "Mickie" Rzepka (born August 4, 1983) is an American bobsledder who has competed since 2007. Her best event finish in the Bobsleigh World Cup is third at Whistler, Canada on February 6, 2009, where she set the start record with teammate Erin Pac. Rzepka was born in Novi, Michigan and graduated from Novi High School in 2001. She graduated from Michigan State University in 2005 with a degree in kinesiology; she later earned a master's degree in exercise physiology from McNeese State University. It was announced on January 16, 2010, that she made the US team for the 2010 Winter Olympics, where she finished sixth in the two-woman event. FIBT World Championships 2009
The FIBT World Championships 2009, officially known as the Bauhaus FIBT Bobsleigh & Skeleton World Championships, February 20 to March 1, 2009, at the bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track in Lake Placid, New York, for the ninth time, doing so previously in 1949, 1961, 1969, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1997 ( skeleton), and 2003 (men's bobsleigh). Lake Placid was chosen 25–11 over Igls, Austria. Event preparations Local schools were involved in a "Scholastic Sliding Challenge" (SSC) as part of the FIL World Luge Championships that was held in early February 2009.
