Bobenthaler Knopf
The Bobenthaler Knopf ("Bobenthal Knob") is a hill, (), in the southeastern Wasgau, the name given to the region covering the southern part of the Palatine Forest in Germany and the northern part of the Vosges in France. The hill is located entirely within the territory of the municipality of Bobenthal, from which it derives its name. It lies about east of the main settlement. In the west it descends relatively gently to the valley of the Wieslauter stream; in the east it drops considerably more steeply into the valley of the Reisbach. The Bobenthaler Kopf is covered by mixed woods. A footpath leads to the summit from the south. It forms the centre of the Bobenthaler Knopf Core Zone in the Palatine Forest Nature Park. Wasgau
The Wasgau (german: Wasgau, french: Vasgovie) is a Franco-German hill range in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the French departments of Bas-Rhin and Moselle. It is formed from the southern part of the Palatine Forest and the northern part of the Vosges mountains, and extends from the River Queich in the north over the French border to the Col de Saverne in the south. The highest hill in the entire Wasgau is the Grand Wintersberg (581 m above NHN) near Niederbronn-les-Bains in northern Alsace. Next, at 577 m is the only slightly lower Rehberg near Annweiler in the South Palatinate, which is the highest summit on German soil in the Wasgau. Palatine Forest Nature Park
The Palatinate Forest Nature Park (german: Naturpark Pfälzerwald) lies in the south of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany and borders on France. The nature park covers an area of and some 76% of its area is under the woods of the Palatinate Forest, the largest contiguous forest region in Germany. Together with parts of northern Alsace and Lorraine, it forms the Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve and has an impressive Bunter sandstone landscape. The park is the responsibility of the ''Naturpark Pfälzerwald e.V.'' founded on 20 July 1982. Ritterstein
A Ritterstein ("Ritter Stone") is the German name given to markers made of sandstone erected at sites of historic or natural interest in the Palatine Forest, a range of low mountains in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In some cases, glacial erratics were used, in others, rocks or walls at the site were used on which to carve the information. The stones are typically inscribed with their name, a suitable symbol, the date they were erected, their height above sea level and the initials PWV for the ''Pfälzerwald-Verein'' or Palatine Forest Club, who set up and look after the stones. They are named after chief forester, Karl Albrecht von Ritter (died 1917), the founding chairman of the PWV, who initiated the system in the early 20th century.
