Alexander Boarman
Alexander "Aleck" Boarman (December 10, 1839 – August 30, 1916) was a United States representative from Louisiana and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. Previously, he served in the Confederate States Army and as Mayor of Shreveport, Louisiana. Education and career Born on December 10, 1839, in Yazoo City, Yazoo County, Mississippi, Boarman lost his parents in infancy and was raised by relatives in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana. He attended the common schools of Shreveport and Kentucky Military Institute in Franklin, Kentucky, graduated from Kentucky University (now Transylvania University) in 1860 and read law in 1860. At the outbreak of the American Civil War, he enlisted in the Confederate States Army and served as lieutenant of the Caddo Rifles. Bryce Boarman (born August 29, 1990) is an American Paralympic soccer player. Boarman has cerebral palsy, and attended the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and University of Northern Colorado. Boarman took up soccer when he was 6 years old. Boarman got involved with Paralympic soccer in 2008, but missed out on the Paralympic Games because the US failed to qualify. Charles Boarman
Charles Boarman (December 24, 1795 – September 13, 1879) was a career officer in the United States Navy. He entered the naval service shortly before the War of 1812 and served until 1876, subsequently retiring as a rear admiral. He held a number of important posts, both in peace and wartime, in the Mediterranean, West Indies and Brazil Squadrons and as commandant of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He was also assigned to special duty during the American Civil War and a member of the U.S. Naval Board at Washington, D.C. After attending naval school at the Washington Navy Yard, Boarman saw service as a young midshipmen aboard during the War of 1812 and later took part in anti-piracy operations in the early 1820s. He commanded a number of warships between 1827 and 1850, most notably, during the Mexican–American War. Dr. Charles Boarman (October 28, 1828 – November 22, 1880) was an American pioneer and frontier physician. He was among the original pioneers to settle in present-day Amador County, California, serving as its first county physician from 1863 until 1880, and was one of the founding members of the Society of California Pioneers. He was also the son of Rear Admiral Charles Boarman and uncle of fellow pioneer doctor Charles B. Harris. Biography Charles Boarman was born in Martinsburg, Virginia on October 28, 1828. He was one of ten children born to Mary Ann "Nancy" Abell and Rear Admiral Charles Boarman (1795–1879), then a lieutenant in the United States Navy. Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay was the site of Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary between 1934 and 1963. There were a total of 14 escape attempts from the prison made by 34 prisoners during this time. Dr. Charles Boarman Harris (November 6, 1857 – January 2, 1942) was an American physician and surgeon. The grandson of Rear Admiral Charles Boarman, he was among the original settlers in Pembina, the first settlement in the Dakota Territory. Harris was the first doctor to serve the general population in Pembina County, and to be medically licensed, serving as the county physician for nearly 60 years. At the time of his death in 1942, he was the longest serving physician and surgeon in the state of North Dakota. Vira Boarman Whitehouse (September 16, 1875 – April 11, 1957) was an American suffragette, government official, and businessperson. She was the owner of the Whitehouse Leather Company and an early proponent of birth control. She directed the Swiss office of the Committee on Public Information in 1918.
