Blake Pier At Stanley
Blake Pier at Stanley (Chinese language, Chinese: 赤柱卜公碼頭) is a public pier in Stanley, Hong Kong, Stanley, Hong Kong. The name originally referred to Blake Pier, Central, a ferry pier in Central, Hong Kong. The pier was named after Sir Henry Arthur Blake, the twelfth governor of Hong Kong. It was originally located at the site of the Central and Wan Chai Reclamation, Central Reclamation Phase 1 project. The top structure of the pier was later transferred to the open-air oval theatre in Morse Park, in between Wong Tai Sin, Hong Kong, Wong Tai Sin and Lok Fu, Kowloon. In 2006, the structure was once again transferred next to the Murray House in Stanley, itself dismantled brick by brick and relocated from Central. Blake Pier, Central
The Blake Pier was a ferry pier in Central, Hong Kong. It was named after Sir Henry Arthur Blake, the twelfth governor of Hong Kong. History First generation The first generation of the pier was built in 1900 the end of Pedder Street for serving dignitaries and colonial governors. It had no cover originally. But, in 1909, an Edwardian-style, structural steel pavilion was built on top, providing travellers with shelter. It was demolished in 1965, but the pavilion was preserved, dismantled and rebuilt in Morse Park in Wong Tai Sin, Kowloon as a park shelter. In 2006, the pavilion was again dismantled, restored to its original condition. The renovated structure was relocated to Stanley, where it stands next to Murray House, which was similarly relocated brick by brick. Queen's Pier
Queen's Pier, named after Queen Victoria, was a public pier in front of City Hall in Edinburgh Place, Central, Hong Kong. For three generations it served not only as a public pier in day-to-day use but also as a major ceremonial arrival and departure point. The pier witnessed the official arrival in Hong Kong of all of Hong Kong's governors since 1925; Elizabeth II landed there in 1975, as did the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1989. The second and final pier structure, built along the newly reclaimed waterfront, was designed in a modern utilitarian style and was opened by Maurine Grantham, wife of Governor Alexander Grantham, in June 1954. Po Toi Island
Po Toi (commonly , originally ) is the main island of the Po Toi Islands and the southernmost island of Hong Kong, with an area of 3.69 km². Name It is said that the island used to produce dried seaweeds (), which were shaped like the cattail hassock () used by the monks for sitting; therefore the island was originally called 蒲苔島, the present common name being a corruption. Another explanation states that Po Toi looks like a floating platform () when viewed from a distance on sea. 蒲 is another character meaning "to float" in the local dialect, thus giving the island its name. History The island historically had a maximum of about 1,000 fishermen and farmers, whose economic activity consisted mainly of fishing, farming and seaweed harvesting. Aberdeen () is an area on southwest Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Southern District. The kai-to, sometimes kaito or kaido () is a type of small, motorised ferry that operates in Hong Kong. They are usually used to serve remote coastal settlements in the Outlying Islands, Hong Kong, territory's outlying islands.: "Cargo junks of the type still known as kai to or "local ferry" had long plied between NT ports, Hong Kong, and places in the Canton Delta: see e.g. the list of ports in the papers at GN 170 in HKGG, 17 November 1866. Murray House
Murray House is a Victorian-era building in Stanley, Hong Kong. Built in the present-day business district of Central in 1846 as officers' quarters of the Murray Barracks, the building was moved to the south of Hong Kong Island during the 2000s.This building has become an iconic landmark in Hong Kong. After housing the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, now in Stanley, it is now home to restaurants and shops. Architecture Murray House was one of the oldest surviving public buildings in Hong Kong. Similar to many of its contemporaries from the early colonial era, it was designed in Classical architecture style.
