Birka Cruises (formerly Birka Line) was an Ålandian shipping company that operated a cruise ship on the Baltic Sea with Stockholm as the starting point under the name Birka Cruises. Birka Line has a cargo-shipping subsidiary, Birka Cargo. During the 1970s the company was often marketed as Ålandslinjen. Stockholms Rederi AB Svea (originally Sveabolaget, later often referred to as Rederi AB Svea or simply Svea) was a Swedish shipping company founded in the 1870s. It operated a wide variety of ships carrying freight and passengers around the world, mostly concentrating on traffic in the Baltic and North Sea and was one of the largest Swedish shipping companies in its time. MS ''Crown Iris'' is a cruise ship owned by Mano Maritime. She was originally ordered by Birka Line as MS ''Birka Queen'' from the Wärtsilä Marine Turku Shipyard in Finland, but completed by Kvaerner Masa-Yards as MS ''Royal Majesty'' for Majesty Cruise Line. In 1997 she was sold to Norwegian Cruise Line as the MS ''Norwegian Majesty'' and lengthened by at the Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany. She was sold to Louis Cruises as the MS ''Louis Majesty'' from 2008 to 2012 when she was chartered to Thomson Cruises as the MS ''Thomson Majesty'' before being returned to Louis Cruises/Celestyal Cruises, as the ''Majesty''. Celestyal Cruises (formed in 2014) is a succession to Louis Cruises and Louis Cruise Lines. Vuosaari Shipyard
Vuosaari shipyard was a shipyard located in the district of Vuosaari in Helsinki, Finland. Built by the Finnish state-owned company Valmet Oy in the early 1970s, the shipyard delivered 33 newbuildings and participated in building around 100 other vessels before it was closed in 1987 following the bankruptcy of Wärtsilä Marine. Later, the longest dry dock in Finland was used by various ship repair companies until the construction of the new Vuosaari harbour cut the connection to the sea in 2004. Birka (''Birca'' in medieval sources), on the island of Björkö (lit. "Birch Island") in present-day Sweden, was an important Viking Age trading center which handled goods from Scandinavia as well as many parts of the European continent and the Orient. Björkö is located in Lake Mälaren, 30 kilometers west of contemporary Stockholm, in the municipality of Ekerö. Birka was founded around AD 750 and it flourished for more than 200 years.
