Bigelow Brook
Bigelow Brook is a river in northeastern Connecticut, flowing from Mashapaug Lake in Union to its confluence with the Still River in Eastford. Bigelow Brook is formed in Union, Connecticut at the outflow of Mashapaug Lake. After leaving the lake, it flows south through the Bigelow Hollow State Park in Union, and into Bigelow Pond. After exiting Bigelow Pond, the brook flows to the southwest and then into Myers Pond. After flowing out of Myers Pond, Bigelow Brook begins flowing to the south. It then leaves Union and serves as the border between the towns of Ashford, Connecticut, and Eastford, Connecticut. The brook then changes direction and starts flowing to the east, into the town of Eastford. It turns again shortly after, back to the south, and continues on a generally southerly or south-southeasterly path through Eastford. Tolland County is a county in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Connecticut. As of the 2020 census, its population was 149,788. It is incorporated into 13 towns and was originally formed on 13 October 1785 from portions of eastern Hartford County and western Windham County. The county is included in the Hartford-East Hartford- Middletown, CT Metropolitan Statistical Area. Windham County is a county located in the northeastern corner of the U.S. state of Connecticut. As of the 2020 census, the population was 116,418, making it the least populous county in Connecticut. It forms the core of the region known as the Quiet Corner. Mashapaug Lake
Mashapaug Lake is a lake surrounded by Bigelow Hollow State Park and Nipmuck State Forest in the town of Union in northeastern Connecticut. The lake has a maximum depth of , and an average depth of . Its normal surface elevation is 706 feet. The lake is very popular with fishermen and boaters from the area, and can also be used for swimming. History Mashapaug Lake is natural in origin, but the construction of two dams has raised its water level. One of these dams lies on the lake's northern end, at an outlet which flows into the Quinnebaug River system, while the other lies on the southern end, at the Bigelow Brook outlet. Bigelow Hollow State Park
Bigelow Hollow State Park is public recreation area in the town of Union, Connecticut, in the Quinebaug Highlands. The state park's border Nipmuck State Forest on the east and west and Mashapaug Lake on the north. The park and forest are located in a large hollow or depression approximately 700' below the surrounding ridgelines. They are managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Surroundings The state park is a significant feature of the Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor and is part of one of the largest unbroken forest tracts in Connecticut, which includes in the Nipmuck State Forest, in the Yale-Myers Forest, in the Natchaug State Forest, of the Norcross Wildlife Refuge, and the of forest held by Hull Foresters. Ashford is a town in Windham County, Connecticut, United States. It is part of the Connecticut Quiet Corner. The population was 4,191 at the 2020 census. It was founded in 1714.
