Big Shots (film)
''Big Shots'' is a 1987 American adventure comedy film directed by Robert Mandel, starring Ricky Busker and Darius McCrary. Plot An 11-year-old boy from Hinsdale, Illinois, named Obie Dawkins (Ricky Busker) is out fishing with his father ( Bill Hudson), who tells him about the birds and the bees. All the while Obie shows interest in his dad's watch, who eventually gives it to him. Later that morning in school, Obie's mom (Brynn Thayer) arrives to tell him that his dad is in the hospital. The family learns that he suffered a massive heart attack, which he dies from days later. Arriving at school Obie is reminded of the way his dad took him to school when he sees a father drop his son off. Upset, Obie leaves school and runs away on his bike. Having left the suburbs Obie finds himself on the South Side of Chicago. There, Obie is lured into a lot where he is attacked and robbed of his bike and watch. Robert Mandel
Robert Mandel (born 1945) is a film producer and director and television director from Oakland, California. He is best known for his film ''School Ties'', which includes early film roles in the careers of Brendan Fraser, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Cole Hauser and Chris O'Donnell. Biography Robert Mandel was born in Oakland, California, but grew up in Queens, New York, where he became interested in theater. Mandel attended Bucknell University and decided to pursue stage directing at Manhattan Theatre Club and The Public Theater during the early 1970s. A comedy film is a category of film which emphasizes humor. These films are designed to make the audience laugh through amusement. Films in this style traditionally have a happy ending (black comedy being an exception). Comedy is one of the oldest genres in film and it is derived from the classical comedy in theatre. Ellen Ware Geer is an American actress, professor, and theatre director. Personal life Geer was born in New York City, the daughter of actors Herta Ware and Will Geer.
