Biem Benyamin
Biem Triani Benyamin (born March 13, 1964) is an Indonesian politician and businessman. He was Indonesian senator from Jakarta, known for proposing a judicial review allowing independent candidates to run in regional elections. He also chaired the special committee in the parliament for revising the Jakarta Special Capital Region Government Act. Biem Benyamin is the third son of Benyamin Sueb, Betawi iconic figure. He was later elected into the People's Representative Council in 2014. Before starting his career in politics, Biem Benyamin was active in advocating the development of Betawi culture including initiating the establishment of ''Kongres Rakyat Betawi'' (Indonesian: Betawi People Congress). As a businessman, Biem Benyamin owns a radio station, Bens Radio, which is popular in promoting Betawi culture and traditions. People's Representative Council
The People's Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia ( id, Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Republik Indonesia, DPR-RI), also known as the House of Representatives, is one of two elected chambers of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), the national legislature of Indonesia. Faisal Basri
Faisal Basri (born November 6, 1959) is an Indonesian economist and politician. He is a faculty member at University of Indonesia, specializing in political economics, and a member of KPPU, Indonesian competition regulator. Basri is the grandnephew of Indonesia's third Vice President, Adam Malik. In 2012, Basri ran for governor in the Jakarta gubernatorial election as independent along with Biem Benyamin, the son of a prominent Betawi figure, Benyamin Sueb, but he was unsuccessful in winning the governorship, with fewer votes than Joko Widodo, Fauzi Bowo, and Hidayat Nur Wahid, and ahead of Alex Noerdin and Hendarji Supanji. 2012 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election
A gubernatorial election was held in Jakarta on 11 July 2012, with a second round run-off on 20 September 2012 to elect the governor of Jakarta for the next five-year term. Incumbent governor Fauzi Bowo was running for a second successive term. The first round resulted with two top-voted candidates, Joko Widodo and Fauzi Bowo to advance to the runoff as neither received majority of votes in the first round. Quick count results released in mass media after the second round voting indicated that Joko Widodo is projected to win the runoff with 54% of popular votes. Fauzi Bowo later conceded and congratulated Joko on 17.00 WIB. Official results were announced on 29 September. Widodo won the election with 53.82% of votes against Bowo's 46.18%. The Regional Representative Council ( id, Dewan Perwakilan Daerah, DPD; alternatively translatable as the House of Regions or the House of Regional Representatives or the Senate of Indonesia), is one of two parliamentary chambers in Indonesia.
