Biathlon At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Men's Pursuit
The men's 12.5 km pursuit competition of the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics was held on 12 February 2018 at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The field was the same as for the sprint event, held on the previous day, with competitors starting time dependent on their final time in the sprint event. Summary The sprint champion, Arnd Peiffer, started on the first place. The starting intervals were very short, with number 10 starting merely half a minute behind Peiffer. In the victory ceremony the day after, the medals were presented by Denis Oswald, member of the International Olympic Committee Executive Board, accompanied by Thomas Pfueller, IBU Vice President of Marketing. Alpensia Biathlon Centre
Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Centre (알펜시아 크로스컨트리 경기장) and Alpensia Biathlon Centre (알펜시아 바이애슬론 경기장) are sport venues in the Alpensia resort, located in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea. They are used for cross-country skiing and biathlon respectively. Each grandstand of the two venues is contiguous and similar in appearance. They also adjoin the ski jumping hills. In the non-winter season, the venues are also used as golf courses named Alpensia 700. History The venues were first completed in December 1995. They were called several names, which roughly mean the Gangwon (Kangwon) provincial Nordic venue. They hosted the cross-country skiing and biathlon events at the 1999 Asian Winter Games. Emil Hegle Svendsen (born 12 July 1985) is a retired Norwegian biathlete. He has won eight medals at Winter Olympics (four gold) and five individual gold medals and seven relay gold medals at World Championships. He skis with Trondhjems Skiskyttere, based in Trondheim. Career The 2005–06 season was Svendsen's first season on the World Cup tour, before then he competed as a junior in the European Cup, now known as the IBU cup. During his first season in the World Cup Svendsen finished fifth in three races, two of them in sprints (Brezno-Osrblie and Ruhpolding), and the other in a mass start (Holmenkollen). He also finished races in seventh, ninth, and four more within the top twenty (14th, 15th, 17th, 19th). He finished the overall season in 22nd place. Tim Burke (biathlete)
Timothy John Burke (born February 3, 1982 in Paul Smiths, New York) is a retired U.S. biathlete and coach. On December 20, 2009, he became the first ever US biathlete to lead the overall Biathlon World Cup. During his career he competed in 11 Biathlon World Championships and four Winter Olympic Games, won a World Championship silver and took six podiums in World Cup races. Career Early career Burke first took up biathlon in 1997 and soon became a promising prospect on the national level, first competing for the United States in the Biathlon Junior World Championships in 2000. Simon Eder (born 23 February 1983) is an Austrian biathlete. Career His first World Cup win was in the Khanty-Mansiysk mass-start race on 29 March 2009. Eder represented Austria at the 2010 Winter Olympics and in 2014 Winter Olympics. He won 2 medals: silver in the Men's relay in 2010, and a bronze in Men's relay in 2014. Both of the relays together with Daniel Mesotitsch, Dominik Landertinger and Christoph Sumann. Andrejs Rastorgujevs (born 27 May 1988) is a Latvian biathlete. In 2021, Rastorgujevs was disqualified for 18 months due to doping rules violations. Erik Lesser (born 17 May 1988) is a German former biathlete. In 2010, he ran his first single World Cup Race. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won a silver medal at Men's individual. At the Biathlon World Championships 2013 he won a bronze medal with the German team in Men's relay. His grandfather Axel Lesser competed in cross-country skiing for East Germany at the 1976 Winter Olympics.
