Simon Eder
Simon Eder (born 23 February 1983) is an Austrian biathlete. Career His first World Cup win was in the Khanty-Mansiysk mass-start race on 29 March 2009. Eder represented Austria at the 2010 Winter Olympics and in 2014 Winter Olympics. He won 2 medals: silver in the Men's relay in 2010, and a bronze in Men's relay in 2014. Both of the relays together with Daniel Mesotitsch, Dominik Landertinger and Christoph Sumann. He is known for his fast shooting times, having recorded sub-20 second performances on the shooting range. He is the son of former biathlete and Austrian national biathlon coach Alfred Eder. Zell Am See
Zell am See is the administrative capital of the Zell am See District in the Austrian state of Salzburg (state), Salzburg. Biathlon World Championships 2017
The 49th Biathlon World Championships was held from 9 to 19 February 2017 in Hochfilzen, Austria. There were a total of 11 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, and relay races for men and women, and mixed relay. All the events during this championships also count for the Biathlon World Cup season. Host selection The second candidate city was Östersund, Sweden. Hochfilzen was selected as the host city on September 2 2012 during the X IBU Congress in Merano, Italy (27 to 20 votes). Alfred Eder
Alfred Eder (born 28 December 1953) is an Austrian former biathlete. Life and career Eder was born in Piesendorf, and has been a soldier and thus competed as a member of the Heeressportverein (army sports club) Saalfelden. He competed in six Winter Olympics, and jointly holds the Austrian record for most Winter Olympic appearances along with Mario Stecher and Markus Prock. He is the father of biathlete Simon Eder and was a coach of the Austrian biathlon team. He received a life ban from the Austrian Olympic Committee in 2007 as one of 14 team officials who were implicated in doping activity at the 2006 Winter Olympics. The bans on Eder and 11 others were subsequently rescinded in 2009, after the Fédération Internationale de Ski dropped doping charges against Eder, biathlon director for the Austrian ski federation Markus Gandler and cross-country ski coach Gerald Heigl. Christoph Sumann
Christoph "Sumi" Sumann (19 January 1976) is a former Austrian biathlete. Life and career As was the case with many of his fellow biathletes, Sumann switched over from cross-country skiing, which he had been doing since childhood. By the mid-1990s had he entered junior ski team of Austria and later on progressed to senior level. He was a skillful sprinter at the time. Sumann began as a biathlete in 2000 and would compete in biathlon at the top level for 11 seasons. His first World Cup win came in 2002–03 season and he finished 15th in the World Cup total. In 2006–07 Biathlon World Cup Sumann won the a mass start race and wore the red bib of the leader of the mass start cup up until the last stage of the season, the fact is quite outstanding for Austrians in biathlon despite the fact that he eventually lost it to Ole Einar Bjørndalen, who thus won the mass start world cup that season. Dominik Landertinger
Dominik Landertinger (; born 13 March 1988) is a retired Austrian biathlete. Life and career Landertinger debuted in the 2007–08 season, and his big breakthrough came during the 2008–09 season, where he, as of 22 March 2015, has fourteen podium finishes, including a gold medal in the 15 km mass start at the 2009 World Championships in Pyeongchang and a win in the 15 km mass start in Khanty-Mansiysk at the last round of the 2009–10 season. He also finished second in the men's relay in the same World Championships, alongside Daniel Mesotitsch, Simon Eder and Christoph Sumann. He represented Austria at the 2010 Winter Olympics, 2014 Winter Olympics, and 2018 Winter Olympics. Daniel Mesotitsch
Daniel Mesotitsch (born 22 May 1976) is an Austrian former biathlete. Career Mesotitsch originally competed in cross-country skiing. However, in 1997 he was injured in a car crash and took up shooting during his recovery when he was unable to undertake ski training. He subsequently switched to biathlon. He has competed in four Winter Olympics, in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014. He won 2 medals: silver in the Men's relay in 2010, and a bronze in Men's relay in 2014. Both of the relays together with Dominik Landertinger, Simon Eder and Christoph Sumann. He was named Sportsman of the Year in 2011 in his home state of Carinthia. Mesotitsch announced on 22 March 2019 that he would retire from the sport on 26 March 2019 after the Austrian Championships. Khanty-Mansiysk ( rus, Ха́нты-Манси́йск, Khánty-Mansíysk, lit. The Biathlon World Cup is a top-level biathlon season-long competition series. It has been held since the winter seasons of 1977–78 Biathlon World Cup, 1977–78 for men and 1982–83 Biathlon World Cup, 1982–83 for women. The women's seasons until 1986–87 Biathlon World Cup, 1986–87 season were called the European Cup, although participation was not restricted to Europeans. Competition and format The World Cup season lasts from November or December to late March, with meetings in a different venue every week excluding some holidays and a couple of weeks before the season's major championships (World Championships or Winter Olympics).
