Bengali Brahmin
The Bengali Brahmins are Hindu Brahmins who traditionally reside in the Bengal region of the Indian subcontinent, currently comprising the Indian state of West Bengal and the country of Bangladesh. The Bengali Brahmins, along with Baidyas and Kayasthas, are regarded among the three traditional higher castes of Bengal. In the colonial era, the Bhadraloks of Bengal were primarily, but not exclusively, drawn from these three castes, who continue to maintain a collective hegemony in West Bengal. History Multiple land-grants to Brahmins, from since the Gupta Era have been observed. The Dhanaidaha copper-plate inscription, dated to 433 CE, is the earliest of them and records a grantee Brahmin named Varahasvamin. Asoke Kumar Bhattacharyya
Asoke Kumar Bhattacharyya (1 February 1919 – 11 June 2016) was an Indian archaeologist, museologist, art historian and professor of Sanskrit. He was the Director of the Indian Museum, Kolkata for a decade till his retirement. The Indian government awarded him Padma Shri in April 2017 posthumously. Bhattacharyya has to his credit 29 published books on various aspects of art, archaeology, epigraphy and numismatics and hundreds of research articles in journals across the world. In 2012, he was awarded the Acharya Hemchandra Suri Samman Puraskar, New Delhi for his outstanding contribution to Jaina iconography. Biography Bhattacharyya was born in north Calcutta, to professor Harimohan Bhattacharyya on 1 February 1919. Charu Chandra Bhattacharya ( bn, চারুচন্দ্র ভট্টাচার্য; 1883–1961) was a prominent science teacher and writer of various scientific articles mainly for children in Bengali. Early life and career Bhattacharya was born to Basanta Kumar Bhattacharya (father) and Menaka Devi on 29 June 1883 (16 Asharh, 1290 in the Bengali calendar). His ancestral house was at Harinavi, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India. From childhood, he was an extraordinary student. Chandril Bhattacharya ( bn, চন্দ্রিল ভট্টাচার্য) is a popular Bengali essayist, lyricist, poet, orator and director from Kolkata. Music Bhattacharya is one of the main lyricists of the Bengali band Chandrabindoo and also occasionally sings for them. His idiomatic lyrics are laced with satire and critique of modern society.
