The Rural Municipality of Miniota is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on December 22, 1883. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the RM of Birtle and the Town of Birtle to form the Prairie View Municipality. The former RM of Miniota is located on the Assiniboine River and encompassed the separately administered Birdtail Sioux First Nation. The 2011 Canadian census, the last one performed while the RM of Miniota existed, showed a population of 871, the lowest recorded in its history; the peak population had been 2,593 in the 1921 Canadian census. The declining population directly resulted in the RM of Miniota ceasing as an RM, as the 2015 amalgamation formed 47 new administrative units by merging the 107 Manitoba rural municipalities that had populations lower than 1,000 each. A rural municipality (RM) is a type of incorporated municipality in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Under the province's ''Municipal Act'' of 1997, an area must have a minimum population of 1,000 and a density of less than to incorporate as a rural municipality. Manitoba has 98 RMs, which had a cumulative population of 301,438 as of the 2016 Census. This is a decrease from 116 RMs prior to January 1, 2015, when municipalities with less than 1,000 people were directed by the provincial government to amalgamate with adjoining municipalities to comply with the ''Municipal Act''. Birdtail Sioux First Nation or Chan Kagha Otina Dakhóta Oyáte (also spelt ''Caƞ Kaġa Dakhóta Oyáte'', 'People of the Log Houses') are a Dakota First Nation located approximately 50 km north of Virden, Manitoba. Miniota, Manitoba is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district in Prairie View Municipality, Manitoba, Canada. It is located northwest of Virden near the intersection of PTH 83 and PTH 24. The post office opened in 1885 on 36-13-27W. It was originally named Parkisimo and changed to its present name in 1900. It had two railways in its history: the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Grand Trunk Railway (now Canadian National Railway). Both had rail points about one mile apart and there was a Miniota Station on the latter. Miniota has a K-8 school, a motel, and the biggest employer is the local co-op. There is also the Miniota Municipal Museum. The Rural Municipality of Miniota has its offices in the community. Isabella is a settlement in Prairie View Municipality, Manitoba, Canada. People first began to settle in the Isabella district in the late 1870s. People came to Isabella by various means: foot, ox-cart or horse and wagons. A post office was established on 16-15-25W in 1906 and was named after a Scottish woman, Isabella Gould Taylor, who was the oldest person in the district at the time. Prairie View Municipality is a rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba History It was incorporated on January 1, 2015 via the amalgamation of the RMs of Birtle and Miniota and the Town of Birtle. Birtle is an unincorporated urban community in the Prairie View Municipality within the Canadian province of Manitoba that held town status prior to 1 January 2015. It is located at the junction of Highways 83 and 42. History Originally incorporated in 1884, the community lies in the Birdtail River valley.
