Bertram Ballard
Bertram Charles Ballard (22 January 1903 – 15 July 1981) was an Australian public servant and diplomat. Life and career Ballard was born on 22 January 1903 in Toorak, Melbourne the eldest of three children in his family. He attended Scotch College and then the University of Melbourne, graduating with first-class honours. Ballard joined the Commonwealth Public Service as Australian government solicitor in New Hebrides, Vanuatu in 1934. On 6 August 1940, Ballard was appointed Australia's first official representative in Nouméa, New Caledonia. He was tasked with encouraging war-time cooperation between New Caledonia and Australia and was also responsible for reporting to the Australian Government on economic and political affairs. He applied for a job in the Department of External Affairs in 1943. Allan Loomes
Allan Henry Loomes (25 April 19171 November 1990) was an Australian public servant and diplomat. Born at Burrinjuck, New South Wales, Loomes was the youngest of four children. After service in the RAAF during World War II, Loomes moved to Canberra in 1946 to join the Commonwealth Public Service in the Department of External Affairs. His appointments included ambassadorial roles in Burma, Thailand, South Korea, Peru and Venezuela. In 1976 Loomes received non-resident accreditation for Colombia as Australia's first ambassador, presenting his credentials to President Alfonso López Michelsen. Loomes was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in January 1962. Loomes died on 1 November 1990. Gordon Upton
Gordon Noel Upton (24 December 192023 February 2010) was an Australian public servant and diplomat. He served as Australian High Commissioner to Ceylon (1965–70), Fiji (1976–1979) and India (1979–1984). While Upton was posted to India, a confidential report that he had authored in October 1980 was leaked to a journalist for ''The Age'', that included criticism of the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The report was confirmed genuine and some members of the Indian parliament called for Upton's expulsion, but the Australian Government's apology satisfied the Indian Government and Upton was allowed to stay. John Charles George Kevin (9 October 190913 February 1968) was an Australian public servant and diplomat. Life and career Charles Kevin, as he was known, graduated from the University of Sydney law school. In June 1945, Kevin joined the Department of External Affairs. In 1948, Kevin was acting High Commissioner of Australia to India. Kevin and his wife Hermine separated in 1949. In 1951 Kevin's wife Hermine petitioned for divorce and was granted an order for restitution of conjugal rights; when Charles Kevin petitioned for divorce in January 1952 the request was rejected. Stewart Wolfe Jamieson CBE (4 January 1903 – 4 May 1975) was an Australian diplomat, journalist, and lawyer. After attending The King's School, Sydney, Jamieson graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts before studying law at the University of Oxford. He worked as a lawyer and journalist in the late 1920s and the 1930s, and enlisted with the Royal Australian Air Force in World War II. After the war, he joined Australia's diplomatic service. John Mill McMillan (December 1914 – 25 November 1999) was a former Australian public servant and diplomat. During his career, he held several prominent diplomatic posts, including Australian Ambassador to Israel (1960–1963); Brazil (1965–1970); Turkey (1973–1976); and the Holy See (1974–1978) and High Commissioner to Ghana (1970–1973) and Malta (1976–1978).
