Bert G. Fragner
Bert G. Fragner (27 November 1941 – 16 December 2021) was an Austrian Iranologist. Career He was director of the Institute of Iranian Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences from 2003 to 2010. Before Fragner taught Iranology at the University of Bamberg from 1984 – 2003. He made several research trips to Central Asia. Iranian studies ( fa, ايرانشناسی '), also referred to as Iranology and Iranistics, is an interdisciplinary field dealing with the research and study of the civilization, history, literature, art and culture of Iranian peoples. It is a part of the wider field of Oriental studies. Iranian studies is broader than and distinct from Persian studies, which is the study of the modern Persian language and literature specifically. The University of Bamberg (german: Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg) in Bamberg, Germany, specializes in the humanities, cultural studies, social sciences, economics, and applied computer science.
