Bernardino de Campos is a municipality in the state of São Paulo (state), São Paulo in Brazil. The population is 11,158 (2020 est.) in an area of 244.2 km2. The elevation is . History Bernardino de Campos became a municipality on 9 October 1923 by State Law No. 1929, introduced on 22 December of the same year. Until 1886 it was a small village called Douradão, then it took the name of Figueira, and subsequently it was renamed as Peace district ( pt, distrito da Paz), and, finally, Bernardino Jos%C3%A9 de Campos J%C3%BAnior, Bernardino José de Campos Júnior, in honor of the governor of the State of São Paulo of that time. Bernardino José de Campos Júnior (6 September 1841 — 18 January 1915) was a Brazilian politician. He was governor of São Paulo from 23 August 1892 to 15 April 1896 and 3 July 1902 to 1 May 1904. Campos was born in Pouso Alegre. He served as the President of the Chamber of Deputies from 1891 to 1892.
