Bernadette (singer)
Bernadette (born Bernadette Kraakman on 1 March 1959) is a Dutch singer, best known for her participation in the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest. Bernadette was not a well-known name when she took part with two songs in the 1983 Dutch Eurovision selection, but she emerged the narrow victor (by just one point) with " Sing Me a Song", which despite the title was sung in Dutch. She went forward to the 28th Eurovision Song Contest, held in Munich on 23 April, where "Sing Me a Song" finished a solid seventh of the 20 entries. Following her unsuccessful partnership with Ingrid Simons in the duo Double Trouble in 1986, Bernadette became a voiceover and backing singer, having worked with artists such as Harry Slinger and Rob de Nijs. Volendam
Volendam () is a fishing town in the municipality of Edam-Volendam, province of North Holland, Netherlands. As of 1 January 2021, it has a population of 22,715. It is twinned with Coventry, England. History Originally, Volendam was the location of the harbour of the nearby Edam, which was situated at the mouth of the IJ bay. In 1357, the inhabitants of Edam dug a shorter canal to the Zuiderzee with its own separate harbour. This removed the need for the original harbour, which was then dammed and used for land reclamation. Farmers and local fishermen settled there, forming the new community of Vollendam, which translates to 'Full dam'. In the early part of the 20th century Volendam became something of an artists' retreat, with both Picasso and Renoir spending time here. The Netherlands was represented by Bill van Dijk, with the song "Jij en ik", at the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Harrogate, England on 24 April. The song and performer were chosen independently of each other at the Dutch national final on 24 February. Although "Jij en ik" performed poorly at Eurovision and was forgotten immediately after, "Fantasie eiland", which had finished second in the Dutch national final, was picked up by British record producer Tim Friese-Greene, recorded in English (as "Fantasy Island") by the group Tight Fit, and became a top 5 hit in the UK and also a chart success in Ireland. The Netherlands was represented by Maribelle, with the song "Ik hou van jou", at the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Luxembourg City on 5 May. Maribelle was the winner of the Dutch national final for the contest, held on 14 March. She had previously missed out narrowly in the Dutch selections of 1981. Before Eurovision Nationaal Songfestival 1984 The final was held at the NOS TV studios in Hilversum, hosted by Eddy Becker. Five acts took part, performing two songs each. Maribelle (born Marie Kwakman on 4 April 1960) is a Dutch singer, best known for her participation in the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest. In 1981, Maribelle performed two songs, "Marionette" and "Fantasie", in the Dutch Eurovision pre-selection, only to finish second and third, behind Linda Williams. Bill Van Dijk
Willem Edsger "Bill" van Dijk (born 22 December 1947) is a Dutch singer and musical performer. He is best known for his rendition of the '' Wilhelmus'' (the national anthem of the Netherlands), which he performed on countless occasions in football stadiums. Moreover, Van Dijk worked on various musical productions. In 1982, he represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest. His song, "Jij en ik", written by Dick Bakker (music), Liselore Gerritsen (lyrics) and Peter Schön (musical arrangement), failed to make an impression in Harrogate: it finished 16th with only 8 points. He performed voices on '' Sesamstraat'', the Dutch co-production of ''Sesame Street''.
