Bill Van Dijk
Willem Edsger "Bill" van Dijk (born 22 December 1947) is a Dutch singer and musical performer. He is best known for his rendition of the ''Wilhelmus'' (the national anthem of the Netherlands), which he performed on countless occasions in football stadiums. Moreover, Van Dijk worked on various musical productions. In 1982, he represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest. His song, "Jij en ik", written by Dick Bakker (music), Liselore Gerritsen (lyrics) and Peter Schön (musical arrangement), failed to make an impression in Harrogate: it finished 16th with only 8 points. He performed voices on ''Sesamstraat'', the Dutch co-production of ''Sesame Street''. Van Dijk did the voices of Roosevelt Franklin, Clementine, and many of the rock singers on the show (such as Little Chrissy and Bip Bipadotta). He was active on Sesamstraat until the early 1990s. The Netherlands was represented by Bernadette, with the song "Sing Me a Song", at the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Munich on 23 April. Bernadette was the winner of the Dutch national final for the contest, held on 23 February. Before Eurovision Nationaal Songfestival 1983 The final was held at the Congresgebouw in The Hague, hosted by Ivo Niehe. Five acts took part performing two songs each and voting was by 12 regional juries, who each had 30 points to divide between the songs. "Sing Me a Song" emerged the unexpected winner by a margin of just 1 point over the pre-final favourite "Een beetje van dit" by Vulcano, largely thanks to the South Holland jury awarding 19 of its 30 points to the song. Bernadette (born Bernadette Kraakman on 1 March 1959) is a Dutch singer, best known for her participation in the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest. Bernadette was not a well-known name when she took part with two songs in the 1983 Dutch Eurovision selection, but she emerged the narrow victor (by just one point) with " Sing Me a Song", which despite the title was sung in Dutch. She went forward to the 28th Eurovision Song Contest, held in Munich on 23 April, where "Sing Me a Song" finished a solid seventh of the 20 entries. Following her unsuccessful partnership with Ingrid Simons in the duo Double Trouble in 1986, Bernadette became a voiceover and backing singer, having worked with artists such as Harry Slinger and Rob de Nijs. The Eurovision Song Contest 1982 was the 27th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Harrogate, United Kingdom, following the country's victory at the with the song "Making Your Mind Up" by Bucks Fizz. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the contest was held at the Harrogate International Centre on 24 April 1982 and was hosted by English TV presenter and newsreader Jan Leeming. Eighteen countries took part in the contest with deciding not to enter this year.
