Berlin Potsdamer Platz Station
Berlin Potsdamer Platz is a railway station in Berlin. It is completely underground and situated under Potsdamer Platz in central Berlin. Regional and S-Bahn services call at the station, and it is also served by U-Bahn line U2. History S-Bahn The first station at Potsdamer Platz was the Potsdamer Bahnhof terminus, which was closed on 27 September 1945 due to war damage. In 1939 the S-Bahn, or ''Stadtbahn'' (City Railway), arrived. The idea for a North-South Link rapid transit rail line from Unter den Linden to Yorckstraße, via Potsdamer Platz and Anhalter Bahnhof, had first been mooted in 1914, but it was not planned in detail until 1928, and then approval had to wait until 1933. Begun in 1934, it was plagued with disasters. Unter Den Linden
Unter den Linden (, "under the linden trees") is a boulevard in the central Mitte district of Berlin, the capital of Germany. Running from the City Palace to Brandenburg Gate, it is named after the linden (lime in England and Ireland, not related to citrus lime) trees that line the grassed pedestrian mall on the median and the two broad carriageways. The avenue links numerous Berlin sights, landmarks and rivers for sightseeing. Ernst-Reuter-Platz is a Berlin U-Bahn station on line U2, located in the Charlottenburg district. History After Werner von Siemens had presented the city fathers of Berlin, Schöneberg and Charlottenburg the elevated railway system several times in different variants, he received permission from the city of Berlin in 1895 to build an elevated railway from the Warschauer Brücke to Bülowstraße. Warschauer Straße (Berlin U-Bahn)
Warschauer Straße is the eastern terminus station of lines U1 and U3 of the Berlin U-Bahn. History Designed by Paul Wittig under contract with Siemens & Halske and opened on 17 August 1902 under the name ''Warschauer Brücke'', the station was the first station of the Berlin elevated railway. Alfred Frederik Elias Grenander
Alfred Frederik Elias Grenander (26 June 1863 – 14 March 1931) was a Swedish architect, who became one of the most prominent engineers during the first building period of the Berlin U-Bahn network in the early twentieth century. Biography Grenander was born at Skövde in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. He was raised in Stockholm and began studying at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology in 1881. He changed to the Royal Technical College of Charlottenburg in 1885. After his final degree in 1890 he became a site engineer at the construction of the new Reichstag building under the direction of Paul Wallot and continued his career in the architectural office of Alfred Messel. U1 (Berlin U-Bahn)
U1 is a line on the Berlin U-Bahn, which is long and has 13 stations. Its traditional line designation was BII. It runs east–west and its eastern terminus is Warschauer Straße S-Bahn station where it connects to the Schlesische Bahn. From there it runs through Kreuzberg via Gleisdreieck and Wittenbergplatz on to the Kurfürstendamm. Berlin Görlitzer Bahnhof
Görlitzer Bahnhof was the name of the Berlin railway terminus for the mainline link between the capital, Cottbus in Brandenburg and Görlitz in Lower Silesia (since 1945 Saxony).
