Berg En Bos (Apeldoorn)
Berg en Bos is a residential area on a former farm in the Dutch city of Apeldoorn. In this part are Park Berg en Bos with Apenheul and Sportpark Berg en Bos. Description The district Berg en Bos is in the west part of Apeldoorn and is 163 acres in size, including more than 300 hectares of woodland. It is bordered by the N344 road (Amersfoortseweg) Jachtlaan and Asselsestraat. JC Wils Avenue divides the area diagonally in half and forms the southwest boundary of the residential area. It has about 2,100 inhabitants and stems largely from the 1930s. Typically, the spacious layout with 'meandering' lanes, a special arrangement of the buildings and the still omnipresent afforestation. The district is often compared to the residential areas in Blaricum and Laren in the Gooi. "Berg and Bosch" is the name of the former estate of the Antwerp merchant J.C. Wils. Apeldoorn
Apeldoorn (; Dutch Low Saxon: ) is a municipality and city in the province of Gelderland in the centre of the Netherlands. It is located about 60 km east of Utrecht, 60 km west of Enschede, 25 km north of Arnhem and 35 km south of Zwolle. The municipality of Apeldoorn, including villages like Beekbergen, Loenen (Apeldoorn), Loenen, Ugchelen and Hoenderloo, had a population of 165,525 on 1 December 2021. Park Berg En Bos
Nature Park Berg en Bos is a nature reserve of 250 hectares in the Apeldoorn village Berg en Bos in the Netherlands. The park is on the edge of the Veluwe hill area. History Park Berg & Bos, owned by the municipality of Apeldoorn, was built in 1934. It was a job creation project in the crisis of the Great Depression. This place was, until the 19th century, a water supply to the water fountains and water of Het Loo Palace. From 1953 in evening 'Lumido' organized a music, water and light show in and around the forest pond in the park. 'Lumido' stopped in 2003 and restarted in August 2012. Themes The park shows the characteristic of this area's plants and animals such as wild boar and red deer. As one penetrates deeper into Berg en Bos, the character gradually changes from a carefully landscaped park in an unspoilt but varied woodland. Apenheul
Apenheul Primate Park is a zoo in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. It specializes in apes and monkeys. It opened in 1971 and was the first zoo in the world where monkeys could walk around freely in the forest and between the visitors. It started with just a few species, now it displays more than 30 different primates, among them bonobo, gorilla and orangutan. History Apenheul Primate Park was conceptualised by photographer Wim Mager in the 1960s, when it was legal for private citizens to own monkeys. Mager, who himself had several monkeys as pets, believed both humans and primates would benefit from housing the animals in a more natural forest-like environment. Sportpark Berg En Bos
The Sportpark Berg & Bos is a football complex located in the Dutch city Apeldoorn. It is the home port of AGOVV. AGOVV has been playing at Sportpark Berg en Bos in the neighbourhood of the same name in the west of Apeldoorn since 1921. The sports park is located in a wooded area and is adjacent to Apenheul. The complex includes four football fields and a football stadium. In the early years there was not only football, the annual hippique concours also took place here. Blaricum () is a municipality and village in the province of North Holland, the Netherlands. AGOVV () is a Dutch association football club based in Apeldoorn. It was established on 25 February 1913. The club played in professional football from 1954 to 1971 and from 2003 to 2013. AGOVV's male first squad plays in 2022–23 in the Tweede Klasse. The park is built around the Queen Juliana Tower, which was built in 1910, and is currently a rijksmonument (listed building). Falconry
Falconry is the hunting of wild animals in their natural state and habitat by means of a trained bird of prey. Small animals are hunted; squirrels and rabbits often fall prey to these birds. Two traditional terms are used to describe a person involved in falconry: a "falconer" flies a falcon; an "austringer" (Old French origin) flies a hawk (''Accipiter'', some buteos and similar) or an eagle ('' Aquila'' or similar). In modern falconry, the red-tailed hawk (''Buteo jamaicensis''), Harris's hawk (''Parabuteo unicinctus''), and the peregrine falcon (''Falco perigrinus'') are some of the more commonly used birds of prey.
