Bent Familia
''Bent Familia'' is a 1997 drama set in Tunisia about Amina (Leila Nassim) a married Muslim woman living in Tunis with her two daughters. Even though she is allowed certain freedoms as a Muslim woman this is curtailed when she meets her old friend from school called Aida acted by (Amel Hédhili). A mother of two, Aida took a firm stand not to tolerate her husband's infidelities. She divorced and considers herself a liberated woman. Then there is their mutual friend Fatiha ( Nadia Kaci), an intellectual who is adamant that she is going to leave Tunis and settle in the West. This strong triangle of friendship threatens Amina's husband, Majid (Raoul Ben Amor), another adulterer who tries to bring the might of the chauvinist side of Muslim society down on her. Directed by Nouri Bouzid, this well-shot film presents us with the very real problems of women in contemporary North Africa, but offers no easy solutions. Nouri Bouzid
Nouri Bouzid (born 1945) is a Tunisian film director and screenwriter. He has directed seven films between 1986 and 2006. His film ''Man of Ashes'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section the 1986 Cannes Film Festival. Three years later, his film '' Golden Horseshoes'' was screened in the same section at the 1989 festival. Bouzid was featured in a 2009 documentary film about the experience of cinema in different cultures called ''Cinema Is Everywhere''. Nadia Kaci
Nadia Kaci (; born 1970) is an Algerian actress. Biography Kaci was raised in Algiers by a mother who was "colorful, illiterate, and cultured". She taught her daughter feminism from a young age and played darbouka for the seven children. At age 18, Kaci became worried about the direction of Algeria and the freedoms due to the 1988 October Riots and the rise of Islamic nationalism. When she decided to become an actress, her father refused to speak to her for twenty years. Kaci was encouraged to move to France, but initially refused since she thought it was traitorous. She eventually left for France in 1993, after the bigotry became unbearable for her. In 1994, Kaci played Yamina, the liberal sister of Said who is forced to wear a veil, in ''Bab El-Oued City''.
