Benjamín Hill is the municipal seat of Benjamín Hill Municipality in the Mexico, Mexican Mexican state, state of Sonora. Location There are municipal boundaries with Santa Ana, Sonora, Santa Ana in the northeast, Opodepe in the south, and Trincheras in the west. The elevation of the municipal seat is 853 meters above sea level. Geography and climate Most of the land is flat, desert land with no permanent water courses. The climate is hot and dry with average summer maximums of 31.6 °C and average winter minimums of 13.8 °C. The average annual temperature is 22.5 °C. Economy Agricultural activity is modest with only 747 hectares registered in 2005. The main crops are wheat, corn and grasses for cattle fodder. Opodepe is the municipal seat of Opodepe Municipality in the north of the Mexican state of Sonora. Venustiano Carranza
José Venustiano Carranza de la Garza (; 29 December 1859 – 21 May 1920) was a Mexican wealthy land owner and politician who was Governor of Coahuila when the constitutionally elected president Francisco I. Madero was overthrown in a February 1913 right-wing military coup. Known as the ''Primer Jefe'' or "First Chief" of the Constitutionalist faction in the Mexican Revolution, Carranza was a shrewd civilian politician. He supported Madero's challenge to the Díaz regime in the 1910 elections, but became a critic of Madero once Díaz was overthrown in May 1911. Madero did appoint him the governor of Coahuila. When Madero was murdered during the February 1913 counter-revolutionary coup, Carranza drew up the Plan of Guadalupe, a purely political plan to oust Madero's usurper, General Victoriano Huerta. The Southern Pacific Railroad of Mexico was a railroad subsidiary of the Southern Pacific Railroad in Mexico, operating from Nogales, Sonora, to Mazatlán, Sinaloa. The Sonora Railway was constructed by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway between 1879 and 1882. In 1898 the Santa Fe leased the Sonora Railway to the Southern Pacific in return for the latter railroad's line from Needles to Mojave, California. This arrangement continued until December 1911, when the Southern Pacific purchased both the Sonora Railway and the New Mexico and Arizona.
