Ben Chafin
Augustus Benton Chafin Jr. (May 18, 1960January 1, 2021) was an American politician who served in the Virginia House of Delegates from the 4th district in 2014, and in the Senate of Virginia from the 38th district from 2014 to 2021, as a member of the Republican Party. Early life and education Augustus Benton Chafin Jr. was born on May 18, 1960, in Abingdon, Virginia, to Augustus Benton Chafin Sr. and Mary Miller. He was married to Lora Lee Car for thirty-eight years and had three children with her. Chafin graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1982, and later graduated from the University of Richmond School of Law with a juris doctor. His sister, Teresa M. Chafin, was elected to the Supreme Court of Virginia. In 1986, Chafin created a law firm, Chafin Law Firm, in Lebanon, Virginia. Virginia's 38th Senate District
Virginia's 38th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Senate of Virginia. It has been represented by Republican Travis Hackworth since 2021, following the death of fellow Republican A. Benton Chafin from complications of COVID-19. Geography District 38 is based in Southwest Virginia, including all of Bland, Buchanan, Dickenson, Pulaski, Russell, and Tazewell Counties and the cities of Norton and Radford, as well as parts of Montgomery, Smyth, and Wise Counties. States Newsroom is a U.S. tax-exempt organization that serves as an umbrella organization for state-focused news outlets with progressive editorial outlooks. Launched in 2019, it began as a sponsored project of the Hopewell Fund, a left-leaning nonprofit that does not disclose its donors. The 2019 Virginia Senate election was held on November 5, 2019, concurrently with the House election, to elect members to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 161st Virginia General Assembly and the 162nd Virginia General Assembly. The ''Progress-Index'' is a daily newspaper published in Petersburg, Virginia. Its print edition is published Monday through Sunday morning, and its website is updated regularly throughout the day with breaking news, feature stories, photographs and videos. History The paper's roots trace to 1865, but its current moniker came about through the early-1920s merger of the ''Index-Appeal'' and the ''Evening Progress''.
