Bellasize
Bellasize is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately east of the market town of Howden. History The name of the hamlet derives from the French meaning ''beautiful seat (belle + assis, belasis, belasyse)'', and has the same derivation as Belsize. Historically in the wapentake and liberty of Howdenshire, the village now forms part of the civil parish of Blacktoft. RAF Bellasize Fields to the south of the village were used by the Royal Air Force (and the Royal Flying Corps) as RAF Bellasize between 1916 and 1919, and 1939–1945. During the First World War, the site was used by No.s 31 and 76 Squadrons in the Home Defence role. During this period, it was noted that the site was prone to flooding from the nearby River Ouse. RAF Bellasize
Royal Air Force Bellasize, also known as RAF Bellasize, was a former RAF airfield in the hamlet of Bellasize, near Gilberdyke, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Originally opened in 1916, Bellasize was one of only four Yorkshire-based RAF locations to see use in the First and Second World Wars. Flying at Bellasize was sporadic and training based, with the site not being used in an offensive capacity during the Second World War. History Bellasize appears to have been equipped with just one runway, which was a grass strip measuring angled in a north east/south west direction across a rectangular field. There are no records of any hangars or permanent buildings at the site. The site was opened in April 1916 as a 1st class landing ground. Blacktoft
Blacktoft is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The village is situated on the north bank of the River Ouse, west from where it joins the River Trent and becomes the Humber. It is approximately east from Howden and south-east from the county town of York. Blacktoft lies within the Parliamentary constituency of Haltemprice and Howden an area that mainly consists of middle class suburbs, towns and villages. The area is affluent, placed as the 10th most affluent in the country in a 2003 Barclays Private Clients survey, and has one of the highest proportions of owner-occupiers in the country. The civil parish of Blacktoft consists of the village of Blacktoft, Bellasize, Faxfleet and Yokefleet. Howden
Howden () is a market and minster town and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It lies in the Vale of York to the north of the M62, on the A614 road about south-east of York and north of Goole, which lies across the River Ouse. William the Conqueror gave the town to the Bishops of Durham in 1080. The wapentake of Howdenshire was named after the town, and remained an exclave of County Durham until as late as 1846. The original boundaries of the wapentake were used for the current two government wards of Howden and Howdenshire, which had a combined population of 19,753 at the 2011 census. Geography Howden is situated in the Vale of York, on the A614, although the town itself has been bypassed. Belsize Park is an affluent residential area of Hampstead in the London Borough of Camden (the inner north-west of London), England. Howdenshire
Howdenshire was a wapentake and a liberty of England, lying around the town of Howden in the East Riding of Yorkshire. In the Anglo-Saxon period, the district was under the control of Peterborough's monastery, but it was confiscated by Edward the Confessor, and then given to the Bishop of Durham by William I of England. It came to operate as an exclave of County Durham, much like Allertonshire, but under the dean of Durham rather than the bishop.
