Begum Rokeya Padak
Begum Rokeya Padak, named after Begum Rokeya, is a Bangladeshi national honour conferred on individual women for their exceptional achievement. The award is given by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh. The award recognises the pioneering contribution of an individual in empowering women and raising women's issues. Each awardee receives a gold medal weighing 25 grams of 18-karat gold, a certificate of honour, and a sum of cash. The amount of the cash reward was tk 2,00,000 from May 2017. Next it was increased to tk 4,00,000 from November 2019. Zohra Begum Kazi
Zohra Begum Kazi (15 October 19127 November 2007) was the first Bengali Muslim female physician. She was awarded Tamgha-e-Pakistan (1964), Begum Rokeya Padak (2002) and Ekushey Padak (2008). Early life and family Kazi was born in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, United Provinces of British India. She has been called the Florence Nightingale of Dhaka. Kazi came from Kazi family of Gopalpur in the Madaripur District in what was then Bengal. Her father, Kazi Abdus Sattar was also a physician and a politician. At the age of 32, Kazi married a lawmaker, Razuddin Bhuiyan MLC MP, the only son of the Zamindar of Hatirdia in Monohardi Upazila, Narsingdi District. She was widowed in 1963. Meherunnesa Khatun
Meherun Nesa (20 August 1942 – 27 March 1971) was a poet and martyred Bengali intellectual of the Bangladesh Liberation War. Early life Nesa was born on 20 August 1942 in Khidirpur, Kolkata, West Bengal, British Raj. She did not attend school but was self-taught. She moved with her family to East Bengal, Pakistan in 1950 after the partition of India. Career Nesa worked as a copywriter in Bangla Academy, after which she worked at the Philips Radio Company starting in 1961. She worked as a copywriter in the USIS Library Dhaka operated by United States Information Agency. Nesa published her first poem, Chashi (চাষি), in 1953 in the '' Daily Sangbad''. Meher Kabir
Meher Kabir (5 June 1919 – 13 October 2018) was a Bangladeshi academic and litterateur. She was awarded Begum Rokeya Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2010. Education and career Kabir completed her matriculation in 1936. She then studied in Bethune College for intermediate exam, Scottish Churches College for the bachelor's degree and University College of Science and Technology for her master's. Nasrin Parvin Huq
Nasreen Pervin Huq (born Bangladesh, 18 November 1958, died Bangladesh, 24 April 2006) was a prominent women's activist and campaigner for women's rights and social justice. She died in an accident at her home in Dhaka, when she was crushed by a vehicle. Sultana Zaman (psychologist)
Sultana Zaman (9 June 1932 – 22 March 2020) was a Bangladeshi psychologist, academic, and philanthropist. She was the founder of Bangladesh Protibandhi Foundation (BPF), an organization for the mentally disabled people. She was awarded Begum Rokeya Padak in 2008 by the Government of Bangladesh.
