Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. Cannington is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is based in the inner southern suburbs of Perth. Cannington is a safe Labor seat. Based on the results of the 2005 state election, the district was created with a Labor Party majority of 63.3% to 36.7% versus the Liberal Party. Kenwick, Western Australia is a mixed residential, light industrial and semi-rural suburb located in the south-east of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Gosnells. A large portion of the suburb is composed of remnant agricultural land organized as smallholdings of several acres, as well as relatively pristine native wetlands, including the Brixton Street Wetlands which are of significant conservation value. It also contains several sites of historical significance relating to its status as one of the early farming communities of the Swan River Colony. Kenwick is bounded on the south-west by the Canning River and on the north-west by the Roe Highway. History The name Ferndale originated from developers who decided not to proceed with the City of Canning's choice of Shearnstead. In 1965, the name change was approved. Thornlie is a large residential suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, located south-east of the city's central business district. East Cannington is a southeastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Canning. History East Cannington, previously part of Queens Park Road Board District and once incorporating present day Beckenham, was largely a semi-rural area, with only the area near the railway used for housing. In 1959, the suburb was gazetted as a postal district.
